I just bought a hpi savage 25 from my friend and there seems to be a problem with the radio and receiver. sometimes when I'm running it it seems like i lose connection and the truck keeps going for a little bit then it returns to normal. I checked the wirings and i see that the antenna was cut and resoldered. I was wondering if that is the problem that is making me lose control of my truck.

It could be an issue, however, you may want to check the receiver batteries (4 AA's) and make sure they're fresh. Aside from that, make sure your transmitter batteries are fresh.

If that doesn't help, try plugging the 4AA battery holder directly into the receiver, and try again. If the problem goes away, you have a bad switch.

If that doesn't help, see if you can borrow someones' receiver (if you know anyone with another receiver like yours).

Good luck, and let us know if any of the above helps you.

I have the rechargeable receiver pack and it was working fine. the steering and throttle servos were turning fine and fast. I'll try out another transmitter to see if that is the problem.

try a new set of crystals..I just popped mine bashing and my steering went erratic as well as a on-off type throttle responce.

What do you mean by replace the antenna? do you mean replace the whole receiver or just add another wire?

Before replacing the radio or any other part, verify that the linkages are not binding. The throttle linkage on the Savages are not the greatest. Without the engine on, use the transmitter to move the throttle into forward as if you were giving it throttle. Do it a while to see if the throttle linkage binds at all. If it does, you might as well do the throttle linkage mod.

I lose control of the steering too when its acting up. Nothing works it seems like its something with the electricals such as the switch I'm thinking its the switch but I'm still going through everything to figure out the problem. It seems like when I'm driving it the power cuts out so the servos are still in the position that i was holding it at. I'm not sure yet but I'm looking into it.

You really need to be careful till you know exactly what's causing that problem. If you lose it at WOT, you'll have some real damage. I hope you have a fail safe in it.

:goodpost: I agree, if you dont have a fail safe...get one. It could save you a whole lot of money if it decides to run off!!

Have you at least tried swapping the crystals???
most LHS will have spares kicking around from old units that they'll let you try, or even swap with a buddy for 2 seconds to at least try it.

ok guys I took my truck out again and I took it out to a different area from the first time I took it. It ran just fine. I think the last place i went was interfering with something in that area.

Could have been the case. If so, you could have been running near a kiddies toy R/C (ones that cost about $15 or so), a computer with a wireless mouse/keyboard, a lot of metal, or even power lines. An upgrade to an FM radio will get rid of these issues.

ok folk well I thought my problems were over with the cutting out thing but I think i finally found the problem. I think it was the switch. I'm guessing that somehow there was something going on with the switch so i changed it out and that solved the problem. thanks for all the input guys...
