I removed 4 of the 8 shocks on mine & used stiff (black) springs on the remaining 4.
This gives it a pretty low center of gravity, keeps the stock shock/arm travel length and removes some unneeded wieght.
Works real good on my track - makes the Savage stick like glue in the corners, in fact I can't even recall the last time I rolled my Savage.
I tried using the "zip tie method" using all 8 shocks to lower my center of gravity, but on the rougher sections of my track the limited shock/arm travel length really got "bumpy" & wasn't smooth at all like with the 4 shock setup.
I probably wouldnt suggest getting some serious air with only 4 shocks, but then again you are asking about improving handling for racing.
