Racing hop up musts! Leave some here please. I have a stock tmaxx 2.5, i raced yesturday and i got my ass handed to me. also i broke my spur gear.... striped every tooth off of it :P. I'm probably gonna go Robinsons racing with that. There only 26.00$ us. Other than that i need to get faster and better handling. Check out "My Gallery" for pics of the maxx. Thanks

Sorry about the pic quality. I really need a digital camera! :hi:

4 hybrids, 1 savage .25, 2 Truggys. LOL and my lil stock 2.5 psh

i just want some better hop ups so i can keep up ya know, the steering sucks! i kept hitting the pipes b/c of it. The engine is gay b/c it has no HP and iono.. ah help! thanks

First and most importantly get a high torque steering servo!
Get tires that match your track.
Swap out your chassis for a lighter one.
Ditch the 8 shocks and get (4) 1/8 buggy shocks.
Ditch the reverse and get the forward only conversion.
Lower your suspension to get a better center of gravity for racing.

Hmm... I'm staring at my Maxx and just thinking what I'd change on it if I were to race it... that's all I can think of for now.

You also might want to look into a rustler tank conversion. It's supposed to even out the tuning from full to empty. The stock maxx tank makes a rich tune full and a lean tune empty. This would make for annoying race characteristics. From what I've read, with a 2.5 maxx and rustler tank, you should still get 7 minutes or so per tank.

Best improvement for racing is weight loss. Ideally losing rotational mass is the way to go.

As Gil said, "loose reverse & get forward only conversion"

Also look into some lighter wheels & tires. The RPM Clawz are lightweight & the Imex Romulins are also light.

Those things would be the first place I would recommend starting with.

Later...:mex:

i want some bowties and velocity rims by proline > good choice?

what are some cheap/raceable 1/8 scale shocks also? I got to whip up on those .21 guys so i can brag about it ;) haha

I would recommend some dish wheels, step pin tires, Proline steering upgraded bellcrank, High torque steering servo and a few of the other things mentioned above....

I have never run w/ either the bowties or the velocity. However, alot of people do use the bowties & have great results. They are definitely one of the lightest tires on the market & have good grip on all types of terrain.

Bowties weigh in around 160 grams each. Stock tires are about 217 grams. So by switching out all four tires you would drop off 228 grams total. And that is rotational mass, so you would definitely gain a benefit to running with those.

I don't know how much the velocity weigh, but I do know that the stock wheels come in @ 57 grams each.

Here are a couple of other wheels which are lighter than the stock:

Sportmaxx --- 47 grams each
Velocity Dish --- 43 grams each
Clawz --- 43 grams each

It will take some research & trial/error, to come up w/ the proper setup for you.

You will be surprised at how much weight you can shave off of that truck & increase your durability at the same time. I have shaved about 1.5 pounds off of my truck, while upgrading it's durability at the same time. That may not seem like much, but the stock truck weighs in @ 9.5 lbs, so that's about 15% in a weight reduction (which is considerable).

I know that I could use a 15% reduction in my own weight. Anyway, good luck & let us know what you decide to do & how your next race with them turns out.

Have you read Steve Slayden's racing tips on traxxas' website yet? I'm sure those would help you out tons! You also might want to check out prolines new shocks, unless u wanna do the 4 shock setup to loose weight. But I'm kinda liking their bypass thing so it handles the bumps good but doesn't bottom out on the jumps. I had more things to say but i just forgot:madface:

The answer to the initial question is a no-brainer. I first saw this guy's tips in the RC Car Action mag (Feb. 04 issue). His name is Steve Slayden. The answer to all your racing and setup quesions lies here: http://www.traxxas.com/support/pub/the_complete_setup_guide_for_tmaxx.htm

I will bet that there is no one on this forum (or almost anywhere else, for that matter) who can provide you with the details and racing setup like Slayden can. I am shopping now for a used 2.5 Maxx to set up for stock-class MT racing. Slayden's setup tips will be my guide all the way. It will make you cognizant of your own ignorance about this stuff when you study his tips.

The more I learn, the dumber I realize I am, doh. Hmm, that is the first step to enlightenment tho, ain't it?

Peace

thanks everyone. this is my almost final list of things I'm getting:

Bohica smallblock chassis
OFNA Hyper 7 PCR Pro Shocks (4)
Proline Velocity Dish Rims (4)
Proline Bowties (4)

"Possibly" Ofna 063 pipe? will it fit? I heard 1/8 scale pipes are better for the 2.5 engine..

Later guys!

The size of pipe is directly related to the size of the engine. If you go to big on a pipe, you won't get correct back pressure or fuel flow. 1/8 scale pipes are for 1/8 scale engines (.21-.28).

You could buy one, but don't be surprised at weird temperments from your engine. I'd check around more before I'd pony up the $.

I was running this afternoon against a Savage .25 doing jumps and I broke my motor mount and stripped my spur gear. I know how u must feel.

The prolines arent too expensive. Towerhobbies has them for $134.00. Don't go by prolines website, they put down the retail price which is usually much more expensive than the real price.

The 2.5 engine is actually a good engine and has good power. If you want it to go faster, port the sleeve. I ported my friends sleeve on his 2.5 and it made it a beast.
