So I'll finally be getting into the local on-road scene and I'm pretty sure I've got most of the basics covered but I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions as to any additional things I may want to have. Things I've purchased or plan to purchase soon...

  • Tires/wheels, bodies, electronics for intended classes (stock TC, VTA)
  • 5000mah lipo battery
  • 3 output power supply
  • a pair of battery chargers
  • Transponder
  • case for my 3PK
  • TC car hauler bag
  • Traction compound
  • I already have every rate of springs/sways for my JRX-S TR. I'm pretty sure I have a spare spur as well.

That's awesome you're going racing Lessen. Out of all the racing I've done, I miss the touring cars the most. It's not something I'd run out and buy, as they are pricey; but if you find you really like the TC class, a good setup board makes things much easier. Hudy makes a NICE one, that has a nice price tag to go along with it.

Yeah, it's about a buck-fifty or so. I nearly got into off-road racing a few years ago but that plane never got off the ground. fortunately I never got rid of the race stuff so I MIGHT do some of that this summer when the indoor on-road scene gets slow. Anyways, I have a really nice 1/8 buggy setup system with a board but it's not Hudy. I can't recall the brand but it's a high quality system but I don't think they are in business anymore.. Gray and orange are the company colors.

Ooh.. A Cow mat. That would be a nice thing to have as well.

Yeah, it doesn't have to be a Hudy, it's just the first one that came to mind. I did all mine the old fashioned way, rulers, calipers, and math. Takes longer, but you can still set up really well that way.

You know what, I've been eyeballing those cow mats too, those things are NICE! I can't tell you how many times I've dropped e clips and things in the carpet working on my rigs.

A camber gauge and toe in gauge, RPM makes a goos set. Ride height tool as well. I had a $20 peel and stick set up board that worked real well. AS mant tools as you can score would help alot. Good Luck and welcome to the race scene. I went from onroad back in the 90's to bashin around to offroad SC this past year and love it. Slow uphill battle but it is a ton of fun.

I think I may invest in a setup kit in the future, probably for next season as I'm just catching the tail end of this season. For now I'm ok with simply taking tie-rod measurements. I know it doesn't give me actual suspension geometry angles but it's still a reference point. I'd prefer a high quality kit rather than the RPM stuff. I do have those pieces but they are not very consistant for 1:10 on-road IMO. Just my 2 cents though.

Oh, so I took a look see at my off-road race stuff and my setup kit is Team Magic. I think they are out of the biz these days. Short stint for them. I think they were trying to compete with Hudy for premium level stuff. All this talk makes me want to do some off-road racing this summer too :) Ahh, one thing at a time :)

I know I gotta be forgetting something...??

Can of compressed air to blow debris off.
Simple Green to clean your tires after every run.
Temps change during race day so your spare tires should be various degrees of hardness.
At least 2 spare sets of arms and 1 set of hinge pins as part of your spare parts. Some days are tough out there.

My setup stuff is all Integy bought used. Gets the job done and is inexpensive. Hudy is just a status brand.

Thanks Rob. Ill definitly pick up some of those spares. Probably a couple extra sets of wheels tires too. All real good suggestions. Thanks bro.

A cooling fan placed over your esc and motor after a run is nice on a hot day.

When I started out I used the fan to cool the NiMh batts before and during charging. When I switched to LiPo, I just placed over the esc and motor instead. Brings the temps down to ambient pretty fast.
