This may sound kind of stupid, but I figured I would give it a try.

Sometimes on factory bodys and other profesionaly made bodys, the ventelation and other wholes are exactly circular, making the body look really nice. I have a nice set of reamers, scissors, and other body tools but all the wholes I cut end up looking crappy. I can't find a reamer big enough to make a large whole. Does anyone know a simple, easy way to make perfectly round vent wholes in bodys?

Thanks in advance

I use a 2" hole saw on my drill. That works pretty good. But I think the Olfa circle cutter would be the better investment if you're planning on making all sorts of holes. I'm just too cheap to buy one right now.

Tweak, when using the OFNA hole cutter, don't use it to cut out the hole all the way. Use it to score the plastic. Take your reamer and ream out the hole as big as you can then take scissors and make "pie cuts" up to the line scored by the hole cutter. After that, just bend the plastic and it will snap at the line you scored with the hole cutter. All you need to do is sand the edges lightly to debur it.

This same technique can be used for the wheel openings as well. When cutting out the body, score the body line with an exacto knife and make cuts up to that line as well and just start bending and snapping. This is how I have been doing it for a while and it makes it easier on the hands instead of using a scissor all the way around.

I picked-up that exact circle cutter at my LHS this past weekend. Works like a champ and the best part is that I don't have all the lexan dust that I would get when I used my dremel to cut the holes.

Diver is correct in the method on using the cutter. After going around and around, I ended up doing the pie cuts.

I use the snips to get as close to the edge of the circle I want as carefully and close as I can, and then use a dremel moto-tool with the small drum sander to finish the process. Same for smoothing long straight sections. ON long straight sections helps to hold the bit at a 45 to the edge (horizontally) so you do not make dips in the edge. I have the circle cutter. Used it once. My technique, although it takes longer, makes better edges, (for me).

I drill mine out with a drill press. Start with a smaller hole and gradually get bigger. It would work with a regular hand drill too. Works slick.

Thats what I ended up doing after I saw the first post. I attached a razor blade to one of those things and just laid the outline for a good circle. After I barely scared the surface I reamed a good hole and went at it with scissors. The end effect left something to be desired, but I will get better over time. Thanks guys!

I used a body post reamer and made a dice 5 pattern on one truck. looked ok, 5 1/2 in circles,,,,,,

It seems that my Savage 4.6 runs so cool, I won't bother cutting holes. I assume my VST will tell me if things get too hot.
