Wondering something so I thought I would pop in and ask..

I have A HPI polished pipe on my OS 30VG, I was just wondering since the trinity Revo pipe is made with the removable stinger insert for big blocks How wold it do with an OS 30?
I know the header for the trinity is a rear pipe set up, but with the side header for the savage what would it do?

I don't plan on it replacing my HPI pipe or anything , I was just really curios.

Lastly, I was looking inside of my polished pipe and noticed a cone shaped thing with four holes in it.
I figure this is the"Tuned" part of a tuned pipe, correct?
If it is why don't many other pipes I've seen?

Thanks for your time and for answering the stupid questions that keep me awake at night!

I'm looking to find a good pipe for the HPI 4.6 engine, and I'm sure I'll be upgrading soon. How do you like the OS 30VG? I'm really almost decided on an OS, just not sure which one. This is my first Savage, my other truck is a T-Maxx. Did it take modifications to get the 30 vg in the HPI, or does it just drop right in with the right parts?

It just drops in and bolts down!

I really have nothing else to say about the 30VG other then WOW!

First of all it starts great,(I'm using a roto-start backplate with a makita drill to start it, with the clutch on the drill of coarse)tunes great, and runs great.
I don't think I have fouled out a plug yet, but I can't remember for sure

I Know this engine has Tons of power, from low end torque to top end speed.
I really don't think you could ask for a better engine, but I have also heard great things about other engines as well.

I hope to have a video up some time of just a few short straight line runs if the weather warms up again soon.

I believe this is the pipe I use, but I'm not for sure.

I have no complaints with it if this is the one I use.

Eventually I want to find a good deal on one of these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFPZ2&P=ML
and try it out.

For my $, the HPI polished pipe is a lot better than the ribbed. The ribbed is just loud as all get out. If your engine suffers from a weak low end, the ribbed will help. But if it doesn't, it will rob top end.

I've used both on a few engines. The ribbed pipe always finds its way back to my RC junk drawer.

I'm wondering what pipe i should get for my savage 25, stock its super loud, louder then my friends T-maxx 2.5R but slower for some reason, cold outside in buff NY!

The HPI 25 is a solid reliable engine, but not a real performance engine. Considering the savage is heavier than the maxx and geared a bit different, with that engine it makes sense. Slap a nice 28 in there and you will walk away from that pesky maxx ;)

The stock composite pipe is pretty limiting. I'm sure you'd find that the HPI polished would improve your performance.

I was told that my Savage 25 is 4.1 and my buddys T-maxx's 2.5 is a 2.5 all he has is a pipe and i picked his truck up it weighs just as much as mine. I either suck at tuning, have a messed up carb, or my engine is readily to blow up. I bought this truck off ebay it runs good i would say, Were running them in 30F weather, if not a lil colder, But his runs better then mine. My carb seems so touchy.

It's hard to notice the difference in weight by hand. It's only a few pounds, but it makes a difference.

I have found that tuning big blocks is tougher than tuning small blocks in cold weather. I don't know if it's related to the surface area of a big block that dissipates heat more or what. But I noticed my revo with the 2.5R was easier to run in the winter than my savage with an OS21RG in it.

Olds really does know his savage stuff!
Way back when, he had one of the nicest looking savages around!

You ever tried a trinity pipe on your savage olds?

I got it finnaly running very good, i think it will almost wheelie now, and it screams, but too loud i pissed a neighbor off today! Is my stock Savage 25 supposed to be very loud? Now i need a tuned pipe that will make it quieter. But also perform better, other wise its not worth the money if it just quiets it. Please post something for me :)

Nope. Never ran the HPI engines either. Just seen a few run. I almost always had an OS 21 RG in my savage. Didn't put out a lot of power, but it was reliable.

With the stock composite pipe, power was very bad. Then I got the ribbed, which made it better, but too loud for my taste. Then I got the HPI polished and really liked it. Really made the OS21 run well and it was quite a bit quieter than stock or ribbed.

I ran an XTM pipe as well. The one that came with the 21 maxx conversion... it sucked comparatively to the ribbed and polished.

Well I have the polished pipe with my X SS kit, is that the same pipe that you had? Should I stick with it or try like a THS or something?

Couldn't say. I just know with the polished pipe, I don't have a "need" to try anything else.

I know some engines run better with a specific pipe. All the engines I've bolted the HPI polished pipe to really seemed to perform well. I've only had the pipes I've mentioned to try though. I'm a basher... dumping $50-$100 on a new pipe just seems silly for what I do. Spending $20 on ebay... well... I'll do that a few times. ;)

If you haven't run it yet, then I'd say run it before you make a judgment. If you don't like how it performs, figure out what you don't like before dumping dough on a new one. Pipes are typically tuned for a specific RPM range. If an engine has great low end, but no top end, you can get a pipe to help top end. Same with great top, bad low... or bad middle. Typically though, you gain one by sacrificing another. Which is why pipes like Buku and cvec were around. They adjusted to an engines RPM by having moving parts with a spring inside the pipe.

I don't think cvec is around anymore, but buku is. $100 for their pipe though... then we're getting back into the "silly" thing again. Especially since a pipe with moving parts isn't race legal. I guess bashers like consistent power. Bashers other than me.

I've run that polished pipe with a OS21RG, XTM 24.7, Mach 26SS (AS stock engine), LRP 28, Mach 427. It works well with all of them.

Yep. It's quieter than the stock composite and most definitely quieter than the ribbed. It's not tons quieter though... so if your looking for ultra quiet, I'd wait for others to respond. I think THS made one that put down good power and dampened the noise quite a bit. I just don't know which one.

The XTM pipe I noted was really quiet, but it killed power in the process...

well if this pipe gives good power and quiets that should be good for the price, but i will wait for others, because i need money lol :) so please post your thoughts, maybe give some links to other pipes, i only know of this pipe and a ribbed one which i heard ribbed is very loud and isnt what i need. thanks!

I'm not trying to sound rude at all, but this thread has strayed away from the original questions asked.

If any one had any opionions about the questions at the beginning of this post, I would greatly appreciate it!
