Hey all,

Can a R40 hold up to parking lot running or no? Its a pretty clean parking lot but there are a few pebbles here and there. Reason is I can get a great deal on a R40 kit and would rather build a kit than buy a RTR RS4 or NTC3. I looked at the FT NTC3 but its a little pricy.

What do you guys think?
Thanks

I would stay away from the R40 for parking lot bashing the car was really designed for a groomed surface, you could always raise the ride height but then handeling would suffer majorly.

get something shaft driven.....to cut down on stripped pulleys.....it doesn't happen often but when it does and a rock gets stuck in there...it tears alot of your drivetrain up quick....like in seconds quick.....I didn't realize you were that into the TC idea for college......I have friends who have loads of TC3s....you can pick one up cheap now and alot of the breakables on em are the same as the TC4...or get the team kit and just buy outdrives....everything else right out of the box is perfect for bashing.....mostly plastics so it takes abuse......

get electrics for school just to avoid any "Fuel storage issues"....and it's alot less frustrating to just step out of the dorm and run rather than have to plan a day while you're supposed to be studing most of the time....OK I'll stop being a dad again....

For school an electric would be better.
TC3s are a dime a dozen and are good units. Parts are cheap as well.

I don't plan on taking it to college...just to play with for the rest of the summer. I knew pullies weren't good for parking lots but I thought I would ask. Seems jetmech may have a nice nitro TC3 for me. If not I can get a good deal on a RS4 3 Evo.

Thanks guys.

Well I broke down and bought a Nitro TC3 RTR Plus. $30 bucks off at tower, I thought what the hell...

So this thing will handle better than a RS4 3 I hear? I hope so, cuase even the RS4 was pretty incredible (I am an offroad guy) and I guess it may have seemed that way since I also had a Savage at the time haha.

Take a look and see if the RTR has a full bearing kit. I think they use bushings on the steering and in other places. Bearings are a worthy upgrade. BlueStar makes a good bearing set for the price or grab a set of sealed bearings off of flea-bay.

Get a rechargeable battery pack and a failsafe......

Have fun with it. They are a great unit.

I'll second that, AC! I bought a NTC3 from Imbroken just to mess around with in the street and parking lots and it is loads of fun! Even had my son driving it last evening and the look on his face when he did his first doughnut was worth the risk of him putting it into the gutter!

They are tons of fun, man! Enjoy it!

Cool, I'll hafta look into the bearing set. How is the AE .15 engine? I may be able to drop an .18SS in it for cheap, my friend has one he is selling.

For bashing it will be fine. Hell, its new and should be just fine. Spend the extra cash on the items mentioned above and you will be in great shape.

The TC3's suspension is more advanced than the RS4's suspension.

Anyone have experience with this AE .15 engine? I've broken in 15+ different engines, mostly big-block, and this one is giving me more trouble than all of the others.

When it does run, it heats up to the point where I can't touch the heatsink without burning myself in less than 10 seconds. It did this at factory carb settings. Once it stalls after it heats up it won't start. I then put a new plug in, it starts right up, heats up very fast, dies and kills the plug.

I would imagine I have an airleak, but I just don't want to deal with this. I am working a lot and only have one or two days off a week and I want to use it on those days, like today. I got 2 day shipping on it so I could use it today and the engine will not run.

Other than that I am very impressed with design of the car. Looks like a race car compared to an RS4. Everything is very low, and the plastics look much better.
