Hi all,

I am looking at getting a short course, most likely an SC10 or Blitz and would like to run my 13.5T brushless in it. However, my motor has a hardwired sensor lead and in my Associated T3 this will barely stretch to the ESC.

So, if you have either of these trucks I would be grateful if anyone can measure the distance between the motor backplate and the location of the ESC so that I can be sure my gear will fit.

Thanks & regards,
Andy

Are you planning on a kit or RTR? I take it a kit cause the RTR's esc is way in the middle and not for brushless unless you get the new one. I can measure mine but it is still brushed and wouldn't do you any good. I'm sure someone here can hellp you.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Not sure I quite understand what you mean by "esc is way in the middle" - the chassis is no different between a kit and an RTR right? I am buying an "empty" chassis (no electrics) in a private sale. Would just like to know how long the wires need to be to go from the ESC to the motor. Obviously this will differ very slightly between ESC's and motors depending on where the wires come out so I will probably add a little onto the measurements to cover this.

Thanks

what ESC are you running?

in Blitz & Slash there's some room behind the battery under the shocktower where a small ESC can go... it'll be the closest you'll get to the motor

I had considered putting it there but couldnt find anyone else who had so assumed it was a no-no in terms of weight distribution.

My ESC is a NOSRAM Matrix Evolution - has an approx footprint of 45mmx35mm.

Thanks!

Guess I explain things goofy..sorry! I have a SC10 and from the center of the motor can to the wires of the esc ia 5.5 inches. Now I have a RTR, but changed the esc and motor to a Speed Passion Cirtix combo. But that will give you an ides. I think you have plenty room to work with on the chassis.

Thats great thanks - I've just measured my leads and the shortest is six inches so I ought to be OK!

Although the sensor lead is short this is great as I plan to swap the electrics in between my SC10 and touring car depending on where I am racing and dont want the hassle of constantly resoldering the leads. Thanks for your time and assistance!

The only one other thing I will briefly ask is I've been really interested in trucks for a long time but have only ever raced buggies. I got myself a T3 (yes I'm behind the times I know) and ran it for the first time yesterday. It was certainly fun but was like an elephant compared to the buggies, rolling over at every opportunity. I always appreciated that this would be the case but perhaps not to such an extent. Do the short course trucks handle more like typical stadium trucks or more like buggies - I've not actually seen one in the flesh yet.

Thanks for all your help!

They are pretty wide, but handle like a truck. Buggies are so much lower to the ground. These are top heavy, but once you get them set up right, they handle great. This is my first and love it.

I've just found out why my T3 handled as bad as it did. When i fully compress the left-rear shock the wheel just hangs there in the air with the shock fully compressed. I have to physically pull the wheel in order to get the shock to decompress. Must have tweaked the shock shaft somewhere. This explains why the car was so bad in the faster corners (the track is clockwise you see and its the left shock thats misbehaving!). Lucky I have a spare.

Hopefully going to try a friends SC10 tomorrow. can't wait! Thanks for your useful comments.

Speaking of which, Outfrontframes has a cool little carbon fiber shelf for the Blitz!

Carbon Fiber ESC shelf.

How do you like the NOSRAM stuff? It's pretty much re-worked LRP products, right?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Short Course RC. It's the most fun I've had with an RC car- enjoy!

NOSRAM were once their own company, started in a shed somewhere in Norfolk. They have been bought by LRP and basically are reworked LRP kit. Find them to be fine products, no different to LRP stuff. I tend to prefer LRP as I like the blue though!:D
