Is it a bad idea to have bigger tires and rims on the back and stock ones on the front?

Bigger tire/wheel combo will make the truck faster. So in your situation the front will be spinning slower than the rear. This may or may not have ill effects.

In shafty crawler/scaler applications, typically this is desired but in opposite. Front faster than rear to get away from torque twist. Not sure how it will work in a go-fast rig.

same effect as if you were do it to a real 4wd truck and rolex is right your diffs will hate you for it.

Yall are gonna have to explain this one to me.... The front tires will TURN faster than the back cuz theyre smaller but the diffs will be turning the same speed...hes not changing gearing just the tire size... The diffs will be turning the same speed or am i really wrong? the gear ratio is the same front to back

I dont know what there isnt to get.

The tires will be causing either diffs to rotate at different speeds.
One will be tripping over the other.

Do you get it now?

nope because the diffs DRIVE THE TIRES... the GEAR RATIO is the same..the only time it doesn't work on a real truck is when you run 3.73's in the rear and 3.42's in the front... the diffs are the same, the tires on the front will just spin more rpms than the back....

think of the tires as pretty much gears in themselfs you wouldnt put different size gears in the diff's would you??? it takes more to spin a bigger tire then the little ones so if you have little on the front and big on the back its just like putting different size gears in the diff's the tires will be going different speeds...

and when you have a crawler only going slow it dont eat things up as quick but when you are trying to go fast it ripps stuff apart and i dont know about anybody else but if I have a real truck or rc that isnt only inching its way along I want to be able to drive'em with the least amount of problems....

The worst part is you ask a question but dont want to hear what we are ALL saying.. Its not like only one says hay dont do it and 20 saying to do it EVERYONE is agreeing with each other except for you all I can say is go ahead its your rig or your friends rig i should say and when he blows stuff apart and ruins stuff he can look at you and ask what happend and you will probly say well everyone on that sight said it would be fine....
dont ask a question if you dont want the answers...... I just dont get why you would ask for advice because you DONT know something but will argue when people take the time to try and help...

if you want that look then get a 2wd anything else is just RETARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!! and thin about it all these people includin me have made our mistakes and learned to ask people about their exeriences and listen to the answers to save us some time and effort and not to mention money.. so we answerd the question and said why we said our answer. I dont see anything else that can be done here..

i didnt ask the question... the output at the rim of the tire is the same... a smaller tire just turns more rpms in the same distance...change the gear ratio of the diff from front to back and then you have a problem...

if both diffs are the same gearing how would that make any difference????? and yeah the output to the rim might be the same but then you have the rear diffs working alot harder and then stuff gets unaligned and you start ruining stuff... like I said try it and let us know what happens

i will and am gonna use the Flux (where serious power is) to do it. Only thing is, when am i wrong and you're right? 1 run, 2 runs? I know the only thing believed will be when i say i ran 2 minutes and it broke... My Flux already ate up one TRANSMISSION gear and that was with all tires the same. My guess is that the diffs survive the transmission goes out first.

I am still waiting to see what HPI does on my barbecued speed control though

Alright smart guy, throw some buggy tires on the front and some moab xl's on the back.

Have your boy friend or girlfriend shoot some video while your running.

I aint got the money for all that but ill put some big joes on the rear and some phaltlines on the front. I've been doing some reading...on a real car they say .1" is enough to destroy a tcase on real car. those tires are a little more extreme than that on an 1/8 scale truck. difference is everything on an rc is direct drive no tcase or center diff.

You need to focus on the overall diameter of the tire. A smaller tire will travel LESS distance than a larger tire in 1 revolution. This causes strain on the differential and trans because it causes the drive shafts to turn at different rates. The larger tire will want to travel, lets say 12" for sake of argument, in 1 revolution. Now, the smaller tire will want to travel , 11" in 1 revolution. When this happens and you happen to have 100% traction, the tires can't "scrub" and will explode the weakest link. Now, let's say you have 50% traction due to dirt or sand. With 50% scrub, you will last Appx. 50% longer, but the stress on the drive line will explode eventually. I can't make it any clearer than that. Good luck and Cheers!:)

Well before I knew it was bad I tried did run a tank through it wit the different size tires. Hope nothing got messed up. Seems to be ok but I won't do it again that's for sure.
