I recently had stripped a spur gear and the LHS only had a 52, so I got it. I knew I was going to be trading speed for tourqe, which was fine I guess, But I didnt relize it would mess with the shifting in my tranny. (Makes sence just slipped my mind) So now it shifts into 2nd gear right away, so I went to adjust it, and now after about a hr of putzing with the tranny adjustment, it shifts at about half throttle, but I have to pull the trottle back slowly or else it wont shift.. Also when I do let it shift, and i give it full throttle I get a high "whine" out of it, and I can't tell what gear it is in then.. Anyone have any suggestions cuz it really t-s me off. Also I dont want to hear anythhing like "get a 3 speed" cuz thats just toying with my emotions..lol.. Help would be appriciated. Thanks!

You might have to tighten up the slipper a little more.
Thats gotta be it.. Why didnt I think of that? Thatd explain the high whine noise also... Ill try it out tomorrow and let ya know. Thanks man!

You got that backwards. If were running a 49T or a 47T before then switching to a 52T spur will give more low-end torque and less top speed. No need to upgrade to the 3-speed to address your issue. I do agree that the slipper may be too loose.

Any gearing change will affect your shift point. The 2nd gear clutch hub is mounted on the transmission main shaft. The shift point is determined by the rotation RPM of the main shaft. The main shaft is directly geared to the outputs of the transmission (and the diffs as well) so that means the main shaft RPM is always directly related to actual road speed. If you change the spur or clutch bell you change the relationship of road speed to engine RPM in each gear. That means the shift point will need to be changed if you want the shift to occur at the same engine RPM.

Thats exactly what I said, aint it? With the 52T I'm trading speed that the 49T had, but gaining tourqe with the 52T....lol... But yeah I'm gonan tighten up the slipper and giver er a try again today. Thanks for all the help.

Well fellas, your tips worked! I still have to do some minor adjustment to the tranny and also touchup some tuning, but still was shifting normal, no whining, and road a few wheelies also. So Big Props to ya guys! Thanks!
