My pull start seems to be slipping and not connecting every time. I`ve done some searches and found everything to spraying wd40 in the hole to just replacing it. I`m wondering if anyone has had any first-hand experience in fixing this, I`d like to not have to buy a new one, if possible.

I think it worked.:) I`ll take it for a run tomorrow.

What engine is it? What are the temps of the engine when your trying to start it (ambient temps)?

Many engines have OWB's that are inside the crank case. Many have them that are outside the crank case. With either, I have found that warming the engine up to 80F helps the bearing work properly and grab.

It`s a Thunder Tiger .21 engine. It was about 70 outside when I started having probs. the other day.

Thunder tiger engines are prone to this, i have run 3 of them and all have suffered slipping. Its all about getting the oil OUT of the OWB and giving the starter shaft a rub with some 1000 grit wet or dry sandpaper. It works a treat, but the OWB will need to be cleaned pretty often. I found replacing the starter shaft after every 6 hours of running sorted it out as well as regular cleaning of the OWB.

That said tho...... Early T/Tiger .21's had an inside OWB, the newer ones have the OWB on the outside making it easier to get to for cleaning and exchange, the part that gets missed out most often is the starter shaft.

After the hassle i had, i bought a Starter box, much easier, then i blew my conrod and bought an O.S 30 Bump start engine. !!

A better idea is to get a tiger drive backplate and start stick, it would do the job just as well without the ever increasing arm ache from starting and the possibility of snapping the rip cord, another common thunder tiger engine traight.

That`s good to know. This is my first real nitro car, EB4 S2, so I`m just learning about all these "surprises". I actually love the car, it runs great and is waaay fast enough for me.

Fantastic, Thats good to know !!! any problems, PM me i know these buggies inside out !!! i run two, and my missus runs one making for 3 in all.

I have written a "how-to" you may be interested in for the servo saver bellcranks. will post it on here for you. Also, i have a list of "Must Do" durability upgrades and a list of "Tips" to do with the buggy set up here if you would like a copy.

btw, upgrade the servo's, the originals are total cack/rubbish/junk, especially the steering servo, the throttle servo is no better, both are too weak.

Also, r u Brit or U.S.A ?? just interested.

Btw, i'm also "Thunder_tiger_eb4", had to create a new account cos i lost my password for a while.

Thanks!:D Yes, I`d like to read the info when you post it. I`m in Dallas, TX.

hi plugged,

The "how-to" is located Here. Please let me know your thoughts on it, as i have plenty more "Modifications" on record for the EB4, mainly for ease of access/repairs or maintenance.

One thing i will say, is that with the 21 engine at WOT, you need to be on your toes and watch every move you make.

if you check Here you will get a taste of what can be done to an EB4 S2. The photo is my AHemmm........"modified".... EB4 "long term" project.

I'm over in limey land (United Kingdom). i'll probably pm you at some point, as i have a lot of data on base set ups, tips, tricks, must do mods, must fit parts (upgrades both factory and aftermarket) and a lot of other data "on record" so to speak. If you pm your e-mail, i'll send the data over.
