PRP Swift

Hmmm one of my LHS's carries them they don't look too bad. Just wish I could look under the shell of one. The one that does carry it sells it for between$420-450

Well, from everything I've seen about the Swift it really looks like a good buggy and the price is pretty good.

If it has some issues out of the box, well most of them do. Storm RTR is an extremely popular buggy and it's got a whole bunch of things you gotta address to make it more reliable.

I think it's a step in the right direction when it comes to performance and price. It would be nice if some day the best buggies you can get are no more then $500.

Yea I agree totally. I would have gotten the Mbx5 as a good upgrade from the Mbx4 but I couldn't resist the price and great compliments about the Swift. I gave it a try and after 3 races, I'm pretty hooked on it. Can't wait to see the major brands go down in price because some are Rediculously overpriced. Took the Mx3 and .21 SH motor from the kit and sold it in ebay for an even $2bill. Guess I got my money's worth.

So, DO you guys have any mods you wanna share in here.
Here's One:
- I had a problem on the rear right dogbones, it would wear out every two hours of racing. The fronts slightly wears out too. *Major Problem*
[Solution] - Purchase 4 mbx4 outdrives (if you can find them around your LHS), shave the inner section of each outdrive (without doing so, it will bind on to the dogbones when going through bumps and jumps).. Make sure you change the outdrives before you start seeing wear on the bones. Once you take care of that, your outdrives will not wear out so darn Quickly. If theirs less binding, theirs less wearing. ( and dont' forget to threat lock the sucker!)

Been gone so long. (I'm a military man please understand) :sniper: Well guys I started this thread. It has sure evolved and helped all of us. I'm sure it has also helped the designers. I have never regretted getting my Swift (price). I think part of the fun to a hobby is working on it. NASCAR racers take theirs apart after every race and replace a bunch of the parts while at it. Keep putting in your 2 cents. It will help all of us.

I will tell you what is wrong with the swift, Everything!!!!!

The cvd pins will fall out even with loc tight, it has two set screws???
The diff gears will need to be shimed, not properly spaced in the factory.
The shocks will need to be replaced or at leased rebuilt, they will blow out after one or two jumps
The seal on the fuel tank will need to be replaced very weak
The engine will last maby 2 gallons of fuel mine lasted only 1.
The clutch bell will shatter, very brittle.
The clutch will melt to soft.
The engine will not hold a tune.
I have had so many problems with the swift I can't think of them all just the ones I have listed but trust me there are more.
I sold the car to a guy at our track and he though that he was getting a good deal 150.0 no electronics no servos(I had to replace those also). Well he was there today and all he did was wrench an the car while all i did was run my savage. Today I an going to a different track with a different guy who fell into the swift hole, I bet he dosnt get much track time in because he will have to fix the swift all the time. So take it frome a guy who did buy the swift $369.00 from a shop in Portland OR. I will never go there again. Please look into the car very carefully before you buy it. The cheapest car dosnt mean it will be the best deal.

Even with his list of his problems with the Swift, it's not that big of an undertaking to address those issues. Oh well, if he's not happy he's not happy.

Not every buggy is going to be the engineering masterpeice of one of them $1000 things.

He needs to learn how to work on nitroes. "The engine will not hold a tune"???, "will not last 2 gallons of fuel"??. Dude If you knew how to tune, the motor would hold a tune. I've ran more than 4 1/2 gallons through mine and still going strong with no notisable power loss at all. Other things he sais just make it more clear that he just does not know how to work on this cars.

Although viperdog may be exagerating some issues... like the shock just taking a jump or two, many of the quality issues he addressed are true as admitted by PRP themselves in previous pages which are mostly for the first batch of the Swift RTR.

What is good about PRP is that when they got feedback and learned about these shortcomings, they faced the issues squarely and made efforts to improve those parts that need improvement/modification. Wagnerov (Cameron) and the rest of the PRP staff render 5 star after sales service and are very helpful in solving Swift problems.

I bought a Kyosho Kanai edition 3 and assembled it myself. The K3 with it's high price tag has several issues too (shock pins always loosen out). My K3 has always loosen or lost screws on track every now and then.

I still hope that i can run my swift again when new modified parts (diff gears, diff outdrives) make it a more reliable buggy. Some minor issues like clutch shoes, clutch springs, clutch bells, shock springs can be easily solved by buying other replacement parts from other cars. I've heard many racers in CA installed Kyosho blue spings on their shocks and 1.3mm pistons. I have replaced my clutch bells and shoes with HoBao/OFNA parts.

Don't expect your $400 to be the perfect buggy. All the good stuff in it is well worth the cost, but you have to change those weak links with better replacement parts.

Just as I thought, a guy I know who also bought a swift came out to the track today. Do you know what happened? He spent most of his time on the bench working on the swift. In 2 hours he only got to run maby 15 minutes of track time and 1hr45min. of wrech time. The hobby is suppose to be fun right? Well in my book if all you do is wrech on your car and all your friends are running how can that be fun. The car is just not reliable buy a good car and dont regret it, have fun.

I lost a few of the pins that are housed in the CVJ's. So, I went to the LHS and purchased one of those long metal rods that, I believe, plane guys use for their servos. It is made of spring steel and was about a 2.5 feet long. I cut a piece, based on the length of the pin and used my Dremel to place a flat spot on in the middle of the newly cut pin and bingo, NEW CVJ PIN. You can butt loads of pins with just one of these rods.

Price .99 cent.

Gotta love it.
