Swift Decisions

hey, i am new to this forum and new to the hobby as well. last year i had a 9.5 rtr that i bought used on ebay... that was a bad decision, i got maybe an hour of actual track time alll summer long. i do know a lot about rc now that i had all those problems with mine.

anyways i will get to the point

i dont want to start a feud but i am undecided between the swift rtr and the lightning pro

if i were to get the lightning pro i would most likely get the mx3 as well so that would be $390 for that vs $450 for the swift

tell me what makes the swift worth the extra $60

i live in st. louis, are any of those places that sell the swift for 425 around here?

thx kevin

hmmmmmm, Just get the swift due to all it's built in hop ups.

I was just at the lhs getting new style rims for mine and I was bombarded by everyone wanting to know and see all it's got. The lhs workers didn't know what to say except. WOW..:trout:

Good questions, indeed. I will see what I can do about the outdrive situation, I know it's a pain in the wazoo. Perhaps a "send us your old ones, maximum 1 pair, and we'll send you some new hard ones" for a limited time might work. I will ask da boss on Monday...although you may not see me post here until after the race in Hemet. That's going to be a long week!

Just win the races and strut the swifts stuff.

I think the help on getting upgraded parts to your ""new" buyers is a very very good thing. I personally think it is the right thing to do. Also helps the Swift Mfr. when we have the best out there in tip top shape running over the competition.

I will be the 1st to say and or ask...... I can be a tester of upgraded or modified parts should you want some public help. I'm willing.

OMG,,,, just got the pin and screw pack form you. THAT was FAST.

Thank you.

Hemet

Please post how the Swift does in Hemet. Good Luck!!!!

okay I've heard both sides of the story and the lightning looks great but i put my faith into u guys and carbon fiber, i will get the swift now.

a couple of the questions: the only engine i have owned was the 8-port... can u compare this engine with that? is the sh engine raceable stock at my local track?

what are some of the problems that occur with swift - (change rightaway)

and what else is stuff i should change in the long run (hopups)

do the servos that come with the swift the same that come with the swift? (not so good, replace, right?)

k then what should i replace it with (overwhelmed by futabas line)

also how long do servos last typically(decides how much i want to spend)

:sorry: for all the questions

:n00bie:

Change at once:
1. Steering servo to hi torque servo
2. Clutch shoe and clutch pins to kyosho or hobao 3 pc clutch shoe

In the long run
1. diff outdrives - if you get the first 1,500 units or so....
2. diff gears
3. engine

hop-ups
1. front sway bar
2. shock boots
3. kyosho center LSD ; or torsen diffs

Once you have it in your posession you MUST MUST MUST,
Loc tite ALL metal to metal set screws/screws. I did change my steering servo to HS-925.

My buggy lost the right front cvj pin and set screw before I had it on the ground. Yesterday I got the new parts and finished my loc tite work. i finally got a couple runs on my street and I was very impressed. Today I get to play at the track and see how it really runs.

I'm kinda excited,, like a dog is to seeing that dinner bowl.

Most of ya'll probably do this already but i just want to remind everyone to put zip ties around your battery packs (not rechargables) before shoving it into their little boxes. My friend went off a jump and one of the batteries came out and his car was stuck at full throttle. Use your imagination what happened next :OMG:

Hi Everyone, Racer Rich just told me about this board so I just got myself resgistered!.I ordered my Swift yesterday along with some Hitec Servos and I have been told today its come in!. I also went shopping this morning trying to get a few of the recommended upgrades, I got the MBX4 Upper Arms and also got a Front Anti-Roll Bar for a Enigma XR and a Splash Gaurd from a Enigma XR, The two cars are almost identicle and come from the same factory, I am confident the splash gaurd will fit but I am a little unsure as of yet if the anti roll bar will.

I have raced a couple of times with a H7 Pro and a Crono RS01, I am hoping the Swift is going to be able to live up to the same standard, And I am confident based on what I have read and been told, Not to mention speaking to PRP and looking at the car, I sure I wont be disappointed!. I am going to be running a RB WS72 engine in it with a RB Polished Manifold and a RB 9863 Pipe. Reading peoples experiences in this thread has made be think I will need to be spending more money, But hopefully I can eliminate some of the problems when I rebuild the car, Shimming the diffs of course and using the loctite (As you should do on ANY car), Obviously I can't fix the problems with the soft steel on the outdrives, Or the diffs, I can only try and prevent those things from happening to me.

I will be sure to post my first impressions on the car when I hopefully get it tomorrow.

I hope she doesn't rip it to pieces!.

AshleyT: make sure that you take out one of those set-screws in the CVJ's and lock tight the other. I did that to mine and so far, its been holding up using my sirio .21 turbo motor. shimming the diffs is a must if your going to use that beast.

What do you guys mean by shimming the diffs? Sorry for the newb question. Are you putting spacers in there or something?

Spidey: Shimming the diffs means you have to shim the internal gears. I only shim the 2 sun gears in each diff. The shims that you should be using are 5mm (inner diameter). I found a trick set of 5mm shims made from yokomo ( part # ZC-s50s ). Its a 5mm shim set that has various thinkness'. A must for any 1/8th scale buggy :)

Spidey, I had the same question before, another word for a shim is a washer, it makes the diff tighter, allows less play and makes it smoother when it turns.:fro:

Sweet, thanks for the help guys. I've had my Swift for about a month and barely got to drive it because of various problems. Do you think this might remedy the current problem I'm having which is the car pulling pretty hard to the left when I give it more than half throttle?

spidey have you upgraded your steering servo yet, if you have or not you may have some type of interference with your radio also, not sure just a thought.

Welcome to the boards Bud.

Lots of nice people here to chat with regarding helping or needing help. This is the place to be.

I have found that the Swift team is honestly here for ""us"" and not afraid to help when it is needed.
