Hey Everyone!
Now that I have officially moved over to this forum I thought it is only fitting that I bring my works in progress with me.
The story here is, I wanted to do a tribute build to a vehicle I had for many years, and was in my family for my whole life; our 1979 F150.
This truck meant so much to me as a kid! I have many fond memories as not only a youngster but as an adult who purchased it from my Dad when I came of age.
This is what it looked like in and around 2004/2005. You can just see my Tempo in the background.
We used this thing exclusively in the summer. We would take it out to the farm every fall and retrieve whatever vehicle my Dad stored out there for the summer.
It was my Dad's daily driver along with our family tow vehicle for camping. We were a family of 4 at that time, so usually I rode in the box, my youngest sister upfront. If the weather was bad we would all ride in the front. Not the greatest family vehicle but as a kid I didn't think about that.
Around '05 my Dad bought himself a new truck. He was ready to move on from "The Hulk" as I named it. I think he found, as I later found out, it isn't all that comfortable in your older years.
I believe he was now ready and enjoyed new vehicle features.
I scooped it from him on a sweet deal.
This is the spring of '06, I went to get my new baby! Me and my cousin drove it back to the city to a shop I worked at and pulled the cap off.
The following spring. I believe it had exhaust now and a big dent in the front bumper from someone I can say is no longer my friend.
I made great memories with this bad boy!
Fast forward to 2020-2021 and I wasn't really using the truck anymore. I had my own newer truck that I drove everyday, periodically in the summer I would go and leave my new truck at the storage compound and drive the '79.
But I was definitely preferring to drive newer cars. I work in the trades like my father (I teach now) but 5 years ago I was busting butt for myself. So when I would drive The Hulk out to the lake, once I got there I was dieing to get out.
The conversations and compliments made it worth it, but I just couldn't get comfortable anymore.
I had redone the seat years prior with new foam and reused the mint materials, so it wasn't that, it just wasn't made to be comfortable.
Anyway, I decided it was time to sell. The market was hot and the truck was starting to show signs it would need body work again (I redid it in 08-09), I didn't want to pile 10k into another good paint job. So I invested a bit on new bumpers and some trim pieces and put it up for sale.
I didn't get quite the high water mark I was hoping, but I doubled the money I had in it.
So fast forward again a few years and Traxxas releases the F150 body in the same color.
I had to build one!
I picked up a TRX-4M F150 High Trail with the plan to do a low trail conversation. Having had another one I had a bunch of take off parts to fast track this plan.
