Alright everybody, I've started this overkill project already so it's too late to talk me out of it.. no matter how dumb or pointless it may seem. Here's the dilly.... A mid/front mounted twin Outlaw powered T-Maxx. I'd love to hear evrybody opinions and suggestions on this project. So let's hear it!!! So far I have a chassis, all bulkheads, shock towers, and the new steering assembly. I have a good idea of the parts still to be ordered but I'd like to hear what everybody has to say. C'mon I can take it.

sounds crazy... why do you think u need two engines to drift a maxx? all you need is to drop the mofo down way low and get some tires... maybe proline street tires + a peice of tape around the middle of it, but make sure there is still grip on the sides.

never said or implied that I "needed" two engines. Just thought it would be pretty wicked. Plus, it'll be challenging and I like that. Everybody's always sayin how much of a pain tuning two engines is and how it's really more for show. I'm not trying to be mr. badass or anything but I just want to build something that's mine.
I don't wanna make it seem like drifting is the only goal. The real goal is to have a better handling Maxx. That tape idea sounds great, I'll definately keep that in mind. Thanks.

are you going for a 4wd or 2wd setup? you are going to need to get some 1/8 diff(s) that are from a street car if you can get them, that means homade bulkhead probably. the reason is that you really need an LSD(limited slip differential) that will be the major factor on whether it will drift truly or not.

Sounds like a cool idea. Please put up some pic's as the project goes on. I would like to see the progress.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I just got back from my wedding/honeymoon last Sat. (The big island of Hawaii is amazing, but don't go to Hilo)
Well anyways, 2wd would definately be a more traditinal setup but a whole hell of a lot harder control with so much power. With 2wd I can use the brake to loosen up the rear end also rather than always relying on out/in steering and throttle. But I am gonna build it 4wd drive anyways for flexibility of use. I'll just see what happens I guess. As far as the LSD... totally right. I know that's gonna be an issue. I would rather not go into so much custom work. So far I'm aware of only a few items I need to have custom built but nothing as complicated as bulkheads. I need custom front and rear skids and custom central CVD/CVDs. Might have to dremel the chassis plate a little bit for clearance of drivetrain. I'm trying to keep this project as much "buy and build" as possible. I'll post 1st pics as soon as I get my custom skids

A lil harder than one but if you run dual engines you can tune them indavidualy (run one tune it then sut it down and start the other and tune that one)

well, after looking at that site and doing a little research I was thinking that that conversion is probably NOT an LSD. It says it houses either mp7.5 or hyper 7 diffs. So I mailed them to see if the mp7.5 kanai edition LSD diff would fit in that conversion casing. Welp, I guess I'll find out eventually. That would be great, although quite pricey... Hmm I should post that very question in teh buggy forum huh? duh.....

HAHA! It fits! Problem solved... Next!...

Damn. That burst of happiness was short lived. I just realized that I'd still have to have a modified case made based on that one. It needs to be flipped over for my particular application. Crap this is gonna get expensive....

I think you got a pretty crazy idea. Drifting is defenitely fun. I was drifting my 4tec earlier. An mt drifting would look sick. Do you plan on driftin on-roar or off-road?

Jeez, wrong again I am. Typing before thinking. They only offer one type of Diff so it must be reversible.

NooP... 2wd on-road and 4wd off

So I was thinking about tires... What do you guys think about using slicks and cutting a couple sets of grooves with a dremel?

I read an article where you could use pvc pipe for drifting.
What you do is instead of using rubber tires, use pvc pipe (if you don't know, that's plumbing pipe) over your wheels.
Instant drift machine!

Crap, as cheap of a mod as it'd be it'd be worth trying just for the hell of it anyway! Try it with an old set of wheels.

ok guys, I been doin a lot of research on this differential thing. The only thing I need clarified is.. what's the difference between Kyosho's "TCD" and a "Torsen" diff like the Fioroni? Or are they really the same thing? Are these types of diffs gonna get the job done?

Also, I've been slackin on the updates. I should have the first pics of this project up sometime tonight I think. Tomorrow at the latest... hopefully

1st DrifTMaxx pics

Well, there really isn't anything too special about these pics... but it's progress anyhow. Stock servo's are mounted but willnot be used.. my digi's should be in tomorrow or Thurs. at the latest I'm told. Here's the parts list so far...

New Era twin conversion
Fast Lane aluminum bulks
Aluminum lower braces w/ CF center skid (I think Fullforce rc)
Fast Lane aluminum shock towers
New Era aluminum bumper supports
New Era front bumper/grill guard and rear bumper
Lunsford Ti hinge pins
RPM a-arms
RPM axle carriers
New Era Sway bars (for use with there bumper supports)
4 wheel steering repair kit (for front wheel steering, I think it got it from the rc pro shop
Aerosticks CF turnbuckles (2 sets of rears, not pictured)
2 OFNA/Picco .26 engines

... and that about does it for now. Anything else you see was stolen from my trashed 2.5.
