I've gotten 'locked up' 5 times today on this site. If I click a thread, sometimes it will open quickly, sometimes it takes up to 30 seconds or so, and sometimes after waiting almost a minute, I get "Page can not be displayed." I can't get back either.
When I leave a reply, I copy it in case it won't submit, and I have to reply again. Sometimes, hitting the back button also locks me out, and I get a blank white page (IE maximized with the RCNT addy in the address bar), but nothing else. Not even a highlighted back arrow or forward arrow.
Every time this happens, I have to close the site and reopen it, but now all the threads I've already read are highlighted again.
5 times already today. Anyone else?

Try clearing out your history and cookies. ALso clear out your cache. I recovered a lot. YOu can just use system tools.

its been running real slow!! i dont know why but all other sites run fast till i get here?

This site has been slower than any others for several weeks, but today's problem was totally annoying. I just got off 2 other sites and had the same problem as I had here earlier. My neighbor also told me that cable went out this afternoon.
$120 a month for digital cable, and high speed internet. Yesterday I was on someone elses computer with DSL, and it was actually FASTER than what I'm getting here. I'm about to dump Comcast. They have caused me nightmares from day one. I've haven't complained in over a year, only because I have gotten used to it, but I've had it with them.
Disney rejected Comcast's offer to buy them for 66 BILLION dollars.
You think we're being overcharged when they have that kind of cash to play with?
For 120 a month, I think I should be getting the speed I'm paying for, and not slower than DSL.
On days like today, a dial up is faster and more reliable.

Also, I cleared cookies temp files etc. a few days back, so that's not the cause.

Rolex, you should call comcast. They will reduce the price (Cable Connection only) to $19.99 per month for the next 3 or 6 months. You just need to tell them it is too expensive and you are switching to DSL. :D

It works for me and so do my buddies.

Seriously? Just tell them I'm bailing out on them and I get a discount?
I'll absolutely give them a call. I'm also planning on going for a dish instead of digital cable. Maybe they'll discount that too.
Thanks for that info, MyJeep.

Rolex,

I'm not sure what could be locking up your system, but there is a possiblity that it's spyware or viruses. Check This Thread for info on removing spyware.

As for the site being slow, yes I'm aware of this. The major slows downs occur during the busy hours of the day (1pm - 6pm) which is due to the kind of server RCNT is hosted on. I've already hired a sys admin to optimize the server as much as possible which has helped a bit, but what it comes down to is that RCNT is just getting to big. Plans are in the works to upgrade the server to our very own server however that's a pretty expensive option, as soon as I get the money for the server we'll be moving.

Thanks for your reply, WoodiE, but yesterday it was DEFINATELY the fault of Comcast. Today this site is running fine again.
I did a short download yesterday just to check the speed, and it was running at about 90 Kb per second. Normally it would be between 190 and 215 on the average.
I've never installed a spyware program, but after reading a few threads on this site about it, I'll take your advice and follow the link.
Thanks.

Okay, I just finished installing and running Spybot Search and Destroy. 14 problems. An assortment of tracking cookies. Two were in the Registry, and I chose not to remove them yet. Would they be from Microsoft's site, or should I remove them also?
Thanks for the link and the info, WoodiE.

I know this thread's a week old, but I wanted to thank WoodiE for the SpyBot Search and Destroy link. I installed it about a week ago, and I looked into the program again last night, and the Microsoft item that I did not delete turned out to be a high priority problem. It was to a security gap in Internet Explorer. It's been dealt with now, and similar to NAV, I update it regularly, and it will block them. I clicked a link on this forum last night, and the site opened, and a window popped up from SpyBot warning me and giving me the option to block a malicious threat, and then put it on the permanent block list. I had the option to let it do all that silently, but I always like to know when and where I get hit with a threat.
Excellent protection that Norton doesn't offer.
Thank you again, WoodiE.

If you have not done so, get the other two programs that were in the thread. You will find more unwanted pests.

Thanks, StrechM. I did download them, but haven't installed them yet. I didn't think I would need to after installing SpyBot, but I will do it tonight.

I ran into a trojan attack a couple of weeks ago. Installed all three programs. Found a couple of dozen threats. Each program found different threats. Update them before you run them, but you probably already know that.

Yes, thanks. Last night I did it all.....full system scan and virus scan. The only thing I didn't have a trojan scan. I'll install and run the other 2 in about a half hour, and I'll post what I found here.

I installed and ran Spyware Doctor. Another 26 items. One in red...Very Dangerous (Slotchbar) I haven't done a search on it yet.....three in orange, and the rest being tracking cookies that Search and Destroy didn't pick up.
I'm about to run the other one, then check out your link.

I installed and ran AdAware. Last night I did the total system scan through Norton System works, and today I installed the other 2 of 3 that WoodiE suggested.
I don't know what happened here, but right now this is the fastest this site has ever been. Normally, when I hit the back button, I wait 30 to 40 seconds to get back to the index page, and now it's going back in about 3 seconds. There must have been something evil lurking in here, and one of those programs performed the appropriate exorcism.
I just hope it's a permanent cure.

THANK YOU WoodiEand StrechM.

Well........I guess I just got lucky last night. Today is the worst it's ever been. I've had to close this site 6 or 7 times already because many times, nothing happens when I hit the back button or click another thread. Several times I get a blank page with the RCNT header, but nothing else loads. It's definately Comcast. I've been watching the lights on the modem and the router, and they just don't blink or flicker the way they normally should. I've reset the modem several times already, with no improvement. I also noticed that it reset itself at least twice, that I noticed. It will only do that if it loses its' signal.
I won't even hassle them for a discount, because even at that price, it isn't worth the irritation of something that unstable.
Goodbye, Comcast, it hasn't been pleasant.

yeah i have aol broadband and I've had a few problems with it locking up but its once in a blue moon and btw I'm on dsl
