my revo 3.3 was running fine the other day. i went to run it today, and it wouldnt shift. the engine died and started smoking, and now it wont start. also one of the heat distribution rings broke off. any recomendations?

thanks

When you say it started smoking, from where on the engine did you see smoke coming from? I'll share this with ya, if the smoke was coming from anywhere other than the exhaust pipe, it may have overheated.

hey, i've had major engine problems as of late as well so i'll give your problem a shot. hope it helps. obvious things first, try replacing the glow plug and charging the ez start battery. i'm sure you've done both of those, but just throwing it out there.

if that stuff doesn't or didn't work, i'd take the engine out of the truck and tear into it to see if there's any damage to it, maybe from over heating. if things look good with piston head and sleeve and the bottom of the cooling head, lube it all up with some after run oil before putting it back together then try it again.

have you recently leaned out the engine at all? my problems all started when i leaned mine a slight bit and the added power was too much for the clutch. i should've tightened the slipper clutch nut at the same time but didn't. after that, when i ran it it stopped shifting into second and the rpms were through the roof. it took two quick speed passes at the high rpm level and that was it. take a look at the thread also under the revo section about not having and idle. there are some pics of what happened and a pretty detailed discussion of what i went through as i discovered what the root problem was...

the smoke was coming off the whole block.(at least thats what it looked like) i will try the tearing apart trick. i havent messed with much of anything. all i did was run it a little fat, but i thought more fuel would make the engine cooler. i dont run anything lean. thanks for the suggestions

ok. well, i tore it apart and found the piston head had broken off the rod and was stuck in the cylinder. it looks like it was welded in place. i can't get it out. i would post pics but i dont have a camera. if you know where i can buy another 3.3 motor at a good price, please tell me. i want to get flippin again

A rebuild kit wont cost you much, but most people, and myself relish when the 3.3 craps its dacks, and put something else in its place. Sirio OS RB. They ALL have direct drop ins, and are all better mills, in my opinion...

If you want to stick with the stock motor, Traxxas has a replacement program, you give them your old one and they'll send you a new one for $135. Not a bad deal if you're on a tight budget. But like BrushlessBoy said, most can't wait for it to die so we can slap in something a little bit better.
