Preparing engine for long term storage

As you all may know, I took the Picco out of the Maxx and don't plan on putting it back in until I get a new clutch setup. What I'd like to know is what I need to do for long term storage.

• First off: Cleaning. There's alot of blue gunk from dried up Traxxas Top Fuel. I was thinking of using brake cleaner on it since we have like 3 cans of it but I heard somewhere it's bad for the engine. What should I use?
• Second: Drying. How long should it dry?
• Third: Protection. I was going to spray everything liberally with WD-40 and then spin the engine a few times with a drill.
• Fourth: Bearings. I was going to put a drop of ARO on all the bushings and bearings then spin it some more.
• Final: I was going to put little bits of tissue in the carb and exhaust but I know there's a better way. Any suggestions?

i did all of the stuff you listed but i did not use wd40 just aro and put it in a zip lock bag i dont know if that is the best way but i did it and my factory engine out of the aftershock looks good its been 2 months no rust

i'd do everything you said, including the WD40 (that's waht i did with mine), but i would not put anything inside the coolant tower (or heat sink). because you have to keep the air circulating.

that is also why I'd put it inside a ventilated plastic bag (zip bag if you want)...what i mean is i'd make some little holes in the bag.

and keep it at room temp. (inside your house).

I think you should also make sure its at BDC, You probably thought of that but just mentioning it.

What about the brake cleaner? I heard somewhere that it's bad if you get it inside the engine, and for gaskets.

Also, any tips for removing the sleeve? I'm trying to compeletely disassemble the engine and clean everything individually. Unfortunately the sleeve isn't budging, even with a hair drier on high setting after 10 minutes (FREAKIN' hot btw testament to the blisters on my hand) and a ziptie in the exhaust port.
