I was driving my savage on the weekend. across rough grass terrain and then it start react very slowy then the truck would not move at all. The engine woudl just rev. I spund the spur gear a bit made sure it was meshed properly. Then proceed to start the truck and when i used the throttle all four wheel spun. Anyone have any ideas why this would happen.

Sounds like your slipper is slipping. Once they start slipping, they got hot and slip worse. When you pick the truck up and remove any resistance, the wheels spin. If you held the truck down to the ground by pushing on the roll bar and pegging the throttle, you would probably see your spur gear still spin, but the shaft it's on not spin.

Once this happens for a relatively small amount of time, a glaze builds on the slipper pad and it gets worse. Or, it gets so bad that it overheats and melts the center of the spur.

I normally take the spur off and lightly sand the glaze off the pad that is glued to the back once I notice it slipping.

Is there anyway to prevent this. As well what's the tourqe spec
on the spur gear nut.

Tighten it down until the spring is fully compressed, then back off 1/4 turn if you want too. Not necessary though. Stay out of grass that is not freshly cut.
Sand the metal pressure plate too. Use red loctite on the locknut. The locknuts are known for slowly backing off while you drive.
Sadly, this is the Savage's biggest flaw and HPI has refused to address it. The slipper is basically worthless, they need to build a slipper like the Revo has with automotive grade semi metallic brake pad material. Not a cheesy rubber sticker!
