just wondering, has anyone powder coated a head? And do u think it would dramatically increase running temps?

Supposedly there are some coatings that will increase the heat dissipation but it may not be worth the cost. If you have a powder coater near you, stop in and ask them about it.

Dont really have one near me, i have a gun and stuff and have been doing my own.

I'm certain powder coat will reduce the heads ability to cool the engine. ALU has great heat absorbing properties, powder coat... not so much. DONT DO IT!

Another concern I would have is if the powder coating would discolor with exposure to the heat developed by the engine.

I wouldn't do it. There has to be a reason that the heads only come anodized from the OEMs.

Just wondering how do u powder coat on your own. Sounds like something fun to do.

well as far as the heat factor it wouldnt do anything unless u run ur engine at 400 degrees for 10 mins. Its also fuel resistant. And as far as doin it its real simple. All u need is a 100$ setup from eastwood and a stove that ur not gonna use to cook in ever again. I actually have been useing a toaster oven. I usually bake the part for 5-10 minutes then pull it out, hook up a little alligator clip for a ground and spray the powder out of this gun with a little fan built in. That electric charge pulls the powder to the part. Then undo the clip, stick it in the oven for ten minutes at 400-450 in some case. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and ur done.Pretty fun, easy, and tough as nails!!!!
