I recently installed a brand new trans in my Tornado S30, and after I got it out and started to run it I noticed that it wasn't running as fast as it was before. Like the engine was under heavy load. Almost like the car is towing something. So I brought it back in and was rolling the front and back wheels individually. When I have the rear down, it rolls freely and doesn't have any issues, however when I roll the front wheels I can feel something getting bound up then it pops and binds up again. I've taken it apart and cleaned it, checked tolerances, cleaned the diff, etc, etc but I still cannot diagnose the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can't figure it out I might just yank the dog bones off the front end and just run around in 2wd.

Something you did when installing the new transmission obviously caused it which is good because you e narrowed it down. When it frees up is it within the same RPM that is binds? Do the front wheels spin freely when you have the back on the ground only? (I.e. have you ruled iut downtravel?) I had one of those vehicles back In the day. Does it use brake bias I cannot remember. Check that if does. My suggestion is just backtrack through everything you did. Most likely its in the transmission as is losing its mesh assuming it's during a revolution. They make these thanks with such tight fit little things like using a button head instead of a flat head screw in countersunk holes can cause issues. Don't run it 2wd.its a pretty easy fix now they you know it's one of x things. As always a video helps others troubleshoot so feel free to post one up we get you going.

I narrowed it down to the composite brake disk. I guess when installed it onto the new trans I may have over tightened it just a little too much causing pre mature wear. It heated up so much that it started to expand and warp. I guess you could compare it what happens when brake disks on a car get too hot and warp.

Nice to know you sorted it :)

When I first started I did that a lot. An easy way to know when to stop screwing in the step screws is right up to where the threads end. Your savage should have a washer than sits just past the threads so you know just where to stop. Even if it doesn't feel old it's braking strongly enough by hand trust the "step screw rule". It's yet to faily me at least.
Great job on getting it figured out BTW. It's a toxicating feeling, isn't it? :)

Maybe you mean "Intoxicating"? That's what it feels like when my Spidey senses tingle...
