popping out of second gear under power

My buddy has a t-maxx with the 2.5R in it. When it shifts into 2nd gear it will pop into neutral. Once the revs come down it will go back into gear. Every time it shifts to 2nd it will do this..
i have not personally drove this truck (trying to fix through text MSG.)
i am waiting to find out if it has rev or FOC.. any idea;s when i can start to look?

any help will be greatly apperciated

that could be a clutch or a gear in the tranny... hard to tell untill you see what it does.

You will have to open the trans. For some reason the pawl is not locking in.

trans has REV, and one of the gears for forward movement has a couple chipped teeth.

trans has solid engagement in first gear, as soon as it shifts if pops and acts like it goes into a neutral position.

I think its time to do a total tear down clean and repalce the gear sets

With reverse installed it could be the forward clutch or the 2nd gear primary clutch.
