Got a bit of grass in the ol LRP today. Was cruising along about 100 yards away at a good clip, let off the gas to turn around and it died instantly... made my stomach hurt to think of what happened to it.

I get over to it and see this:

Think it's ok though. Didn't run in any dirt and it was damp out since it was early. Appeared that they had just mowed the park. Kind of sucked (no pun intended) as I had just installed a new style tank and a different pipe. It was running really good for about 3 tanks and this happened.

After taking it all apart, inspecting, cleaning, re-sealing, I was about to put a ziptie on again, then dug through my stuff to find this:

Should help avoid this problem in the future.
 
Guessing since it was just grass, it didn't really hurt anything. Just clogged the fuel inlet inside the venturi or choked it of air and stalled it when I closed the carb on the wad of grass.

I didn't tear the engine clear down, only the carb. I flushed the engine out with fuel.

Will find out tomorrow when I fire it up.

That's probably the case. I wish you great luck with getting it back on it's feet.
 
It should be fine, I forgot a zip tie once.....SW .26 full of sand, I was not so lucky. It had just broke in and started screaming, then the sand happened.
Those Motorsaver clamp thingies are my favorite, I should have kept the one that came with my Revo air filter. I am going to have to find another one.
 
Never had a problem in the past with the hose clamp... I used to use one on "frankenmaxx". Just didn't feel like running one on the savage I guess. Probably because it still resembles a savage.
 
I think you still should have done a complete tear down. Any thing that got in there can and will cause you problems, possibly significant problems. IMO just flushing it with fuel is just not enough.
 
Your not wrong. I should have.

Ran it today though and aside from totally botched carb settings (should have broke out the manual during rebuild), it ran just fine. With the new pipe I'm using, power is always there and I can tune it to run around 240. Was kind of cool to see 2nd and 3rd gear wheelies... a bit troublesome though. Sent the ol bird cartwheeling a couple times.
 
You know, I'm not sure. I don't know where I got it, but I think it's a hot bodies savage pipe. It's a bit thinner than the HPI polished pipe, but the stinger ID is about the same size.

Man Olds you got SOOO lucky. Glad it was not ruined. Same thing happened to my Lightning buggy.... I have not torn down the engine to see how much damage there is. Almost scared to look......
