I am ordering steel gears for my two speed case and am looking to seal it better before I spend the money. It seems that allot of dirt gets in there every time I bash. I am thinking maybe a thick gasket on the clear plastic back so it would fit snug. any thoughts on a mod?(LST2)

Doesn't the LST2 have the same tranny as the LST? I'm pretty sure there are steel gears in my LST. I checked mine recently and it seemed pretty clean.

I may be missing some kind of lil gasket material then if yours is clean. If I bash in the sand the thing fills up. I will fab something up...BTW the low and high speed on mine are composite plastic. LST2

I was wondering if they were some kind of material other than steel, like you said, they seem like a composite material. I'm getting ready to put the FOC in my LST then it will be all steel an titanium. :)
I don't have any gaskets on my tranny either, I wonder if maybe it's getting in around the output shafts? Just a guess on my part.

wait a minute.. are we talking tranny or two speed/cluthch bell protector case thing?

The two speed plastic clutch bell protector, i can't be the only one getting excessive dirt in there....

my truck didnt come with the little clear back plastic piece and I've always ran it that way. I've never had a problem with rocks getting in the case. I'm not suggesting you do the same, but you definitly wont get a buildup of crud in there.

Sorry guys, when he said 'gear box' I was thinking transmission. Mine also gets crap in there as well, but I don't run in sand and whatever gets in mine, doesn't seem to cause any issues.

FOC will be in the mail today. Looks like I have something to do tonight :D. I love new parts.

I have never gotten and foreign debris on my trans if you guys did the FOC maybe your missing one of the plugs or didnt inserted them correctly i would check that first.

Not the trans read the thread it is the two speed gears...
Your attitude shows a lot of how you are. Help is given, it may not be on topic but it was help given to you.

Your thread title does say "poor gear box design". That points to the tranny not the clear protector cover of the actual spur gears and clutchbell. I have yet to see a cover that truly can cover that on most if not all MT's. They are pretty much open. In fact, Tmaxx, Revo,Savages and MGT all are exposed. As far as covers, the LOSI MT's offer a decent cover.

I'm going to order the same gear cover for my LST, let me know how it works for you.

Yeah it is nice because it is not only stronger but it has its own backing plate that seals it up tight. Now if it would only stop raining so I could go beat it up......

I hear ya, they are calling for rain here this weekend, I'd like to get a few more tanks through the new motor so I can start running it a little harder.

I too had been thinking about getting one of those covers. I figure if nothing else it matches the shocks. Looks like I need to give A Main a hollar...

i have heard a few stories where the spurgear makes contact with the backing of the cover and melts the plastic and that melted platic could get jammed in between your spur and CB

not good :( it has happend to some.

I use the vantage gear cover with the stock rear plate why? because i can see my gears and make sure that they are A ok and incase of anything i have a clear view i havent had any problems with sand getting in though even with the stock cover i still use it sometimes cause the guys that i bash with dont know how to drive :D but the vantage eventhough its carbon fiber it has still survived some nasty crashes it also has a tight seal around the stock clear plate.

I ran a tank through the RPM part and then took it apart to inspect, all is well. Now I am going to the store to get some RTV / dialectric grease, JB weld (finish primer mod) so I can do a little rain bashing:)
