will it help or hurt it if i use mothers alum polish to polish the piston and head on my 2.5
 
umm.. why would u want to polish ur piston? i dont see why u would want to polish it.....

I don't see how it could hurt to polish your piston (the sides). If anything you might see a bit of a power increase but I doubt it would be anything worth writing home about. Course I could very well be wrong. I think polishing the top of the piston and the head would be almost worthless though. There just gonna get all messed up again from all the combustion.

if he we're to polish the round sides of his piston he could possibly create smoother movement of the piston inside the block. Smoother movement = less resistance = more "usable" horsepower.

Although the gain would be very minute at best it is always a possibility. But I think he would need to polish the inside of the cylinder as well to get a good idea if it's worth it or not. just my :2cents:
 
A guy at my local track had took apart his engine while replacing the cooling head, and that's what he did. He polished the piston and the sleeve with Mother's polish. WOW, a troublesome engine now running sweet.
I'll be doing it to mine as soon as I have a reason to take it out.
 
Sounds like a good way to ruin an engine to me. You won't catch me putting anything abrasive on the sides of my piston let alone grinding away on it to make it smooth. I'd have to think with the piston going up and down 60,000 times a minute in the sleeve would be all the polishing and smoothing it needs to perform.

It's your engine.
 
I'd agree with olds. You won't catch me polishing internal parts such as a piston. Just my $.02
 
It's not abrasive. It's a cream type of polish. He figured he got it smoother and more friction free. I never saw his run that well till after he did it.
 
whatever floats your boat bro. But like Olds said you want catch me putting polish in my engine. Also if you did polish the piston/sleeve it would wear off very quickly from the high temperatures and piston moving up and down at 25,000RPM's
 
mothers has a abrasive in it. Its just very fine. Thats what actually doe the polishing. Its the same stuff as a fine compound. I also wouldnt do it. To me it would work as well as a little jello with some fine grains of sand in it.

Yeah but it will also decrease the compression too.
 
eh, I gotta disagree with ya on that one EP. i don't think it would change compression. the rod is still gonna push the piston up to the same point, I don't think less friction is gonna change that. just my :2cents:
 
The tighter the fit the greater the compression. Polishing will remove metal from both the piston and the sleeve thus enlarging the sleeve ID and decreasing the piston OD. We're not talking much but it still the fit will be looser and the result wil be less compression.
 
I say do what you want, then post results on how long the engine lasts, what happened for power...

It would save us burying you with posts saying it's a bad idea.
 
I'm not saying it's a good or bad idea. Someone said something about it getting roughed up with the high rpms... probably true. Now if you were seriously competitive dragging it would probably be worth it
