Well i took everyones advice after my steering servo 2070 Digital traxxas one broke on me (stripped the teeth) and went and bought another one figuring it was a one time thing. Well after putting my new one in and three tanks of gas later it did the same thing. Can anyone tell me why its doing that. Has anyone else had that problem? Should I call Traxxas and get them to replace it? Is there metal gears i can get? I know that wouldn't strip......any info would be great! Thanks :\

i dont know what to tell you about that but i can tell you that i run a hitec Sm645 and its a lot better then the stock servo

Does it have metal gears? will if fit right in with my T-maxx? thanks

Does it have metal gears?
Yes.
will if fit right in with my T-maxx?
Maybe, but I doubt it. It will require a new servo saver that is hitec compatible. Traxxas uses futaba splined servos which won't work with much of any other brand of servo.

You could try the futaba S3305, but I"m not sure what the 2070 has for specs. I googled it and found listings on ebay saying it's a 125oz servo. The futaba is about the same, but a hair slower.

Personally, I'd not go with the 645MG. I never cared for them. Too slow and not very strong. I never felt like it had enough torque for a MT. Even a light MT. It was ok for throttle/brake usage though.

Depending on what you want to spend, the JR Z650M is a bit stronger and a bit faster. Also a bit more expensive.

Then there's the budget JR Sport ST126MG which has the same specs as the 650M, but is cheaper.

Or, if you don't mind spending near $70, then I'd go with the Hitec 985MG which is much stronger and faster than all the above.

If you go with the hitec or JR, you will need a new servo saver. That one has adapters that work with Airtronics,Futaba,Hitec,JR, and KO servos.

I am using the z650m by JR on my crawler, and i put a ton of strain on the steering. It should be just fine to use on a tmaxx.

Great info guys. Another question though...since I'm new to this what exactly is a servo saver? where does it go? and how does it work? And out of all the ones yall showed me which would be the best to get price wise that would never strip again and would fit like a glove without having to buy an adapter. thanks again!

I like this one that olds97 talked about but what is that white star looking thing? my servo doesn't have that.....mines digital by the way...
???
Go to horizonhobby.com and search for: Servo, High-Torque ST126MG

For the price would this be a good option? if you know of another one thats around or under 60 bucks let me know!

first its everybodys throttle servo now its the stering any way i think u should just upgrade to a better hi quality servo. i like hitec servos. the throttle and reves servos dont really need any special care since thy dont do alot of work

I made links for those in my post up above ;)

A servo saver can either be built into the linkage/steering parts of the vehicle OR, it's somethin gthat is mounted directly to the servo itself. I linked to one that goes directly on the servo itself.

It's purpose is to absorb any shock when you smack a front tire into something. So, instead of destroying the servos gears, stripping the servo horn or busting steering linkage, the servo gives and snaps back to center.

And out of all the ones yall showed me which would be the best to get price wise that would never strip again and would fit like a glove without having to buy an adapter. thanks again!

I put links to three of them in my post up above. The 985MG would be the best candidate. It has the most torque and speed. Plus, since it's sealed (or pretty well sealed), you won't have to worry about it for a long time.

The downside is you will need the servo saver I also made a link to. The only servos you can run in traxxas rigs without a different adapter/saver are futaba, since futabas are what traxxas servos are.

I like this one that olds97 talked about but what is that white star looking thing? my servo doesn't have that.....mines digital by the way...
???

The white star thing is just a servo horn that comes with the servo. The hitec servos come with a couple heavy duty horns that make it nice for the buyer if they are installing it into a rig that has a servo saver built into the linkage (like most 1/8 buggies).

The Kimbrough servo saver I linked to comes with adapters for Airtronics, Futaba, Hitec, JR and KO servos. So it would work for all the ones we discussed.

Here's the link again:

OH OK....that makes a lot more since to me. I think i'm def going to buy what you rec. Olds97. Thanks for the info and sticking threw my confusion. When I get it I still might need you to explain to me how to put the servo saver on though. But thanks alot!!!

hey all, all those servos are great compared to stock traxxas servos. i run a jrz650m(50$) when i bought it-maybe cheaper now-but it is a awesome servo-lots of tourqe and decent speed side to side. the servo saver is what attaches to the servo-some t-maxx steering kits incorporate a servo saver into their steering kits-just a spring loaded device u can loosen or tighten to add steering or take away. i still run the stock t-maxx servo saver and have ran the big ofna one-but fitment was an issue using a servo gaurd so i ditched it. most servos will include horn adapters to fit all diff servos.

when putting the servo saver on just make sure u turn the radio on and the truck-zero the steering servo trim on your radio to the middle-make sure the wheels are straight and clamp her on there-thats it-even though everytime i do it the servo splines always never wanna line up straight-usually goes to the left or right. dah well. i hate setting up steering-lol
