Today I bought an almost complete traxxas tmaxx for $50. All I needed was the engine. But the guy was really nice and gave me the whole thing :) Anyways, does anyone have tips on how to clean nitro engines? I mean thoroughly clean it. This things dirty. Thanks and any help appreciated.

I've used carb n brake cleaner successfully. Just make sure you dont spray it on carb and in clutchbell and try to keep it off exhaust seal too. Then use compressed air to blow dry.

If I take the entire thing apart, will I have to break in the engine again?

I had a 3.3 like that and all I did was pull it apart and let it soak in some HOT water and Simple Green, after the water cooled enough to work in it I scrubbed all the components with a toothbrush and worked the bearings until they were smooth. I then blew the water out, make sure to get those bearings, after that I coated the bearings with 3 in 1 and then reassembled. Here are a few pics of the engine before I cleaned it, it was so gummed up that it barely turned over.

I dont mean to bash or offend, but the search feature here is awesome for finding quick answers covered sometimes many times. I take the whole block apart, and clean with nitro, nitro and nitro then WD-40 and I re-assemble the block along with seal it if I have RV sealant or w.e its called.
