What could be causing the pits to appear in the top of my piston? I have a P5 running 30% with the Novarossi #5 plug (medium I think).

Not sure how many head shims there are.
Is this going to create trouble in the future?

Any help would be appreciated

the pits are a visual indication that the engine is pre-detonating, which will lead to bending a conrod very shortly. this is due to timing that is too far advanced. To correct this, you need to either add .1mm of head shims, goto a cold plug, or both. This is a serious problem, that needs to be corrected right away.

what kind of engine are you running? I have a Novarossi TOP that has never been started. Right out of the box it looks like there are small pits on the top of the piston.

I inspected the piston with the head off. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I did switch to a colder plug and shorter plug. I think this may help. I ran it for a couple of tanks with a definate increase in power. Temps never got above 190.

BTW this is a SW Mod engine. He did an awesome job with it.

Thanks for all the help fellas

I did not know what a p5 is. (just that it's a 5 port right?)

I doubt it. I run 3 RB Concepts engines, and I have no pits. They are also nova based engines.

i have a jp p5, and no pits on the piston.. Did by any chance u blow a glow plug ? my old siro did that the element fell apart, and the piston chewed it up
