Hello, well today I took the cooling head off of my newish (1/2 gallon) macstar .28, only to my surprise finding a very small ding dead in the middle of the piston. I have never found anything like this before and was wondering if anyone else has seen this? I will try and upload a high res pic of it.
Thanks, Michael

Sounds like the plug may be too long and is hitting the piston. Check the plug and see if the coil wire is smashed where it goes over the end of the plug.

You may need to add a shim under the head, or you are not using the correct plug.

Well it would seem as if the glowplug was hitting the piston on the upstroke but surely Ofna/Ho Bao wouldnt ship it like that? I'm using the Model-Tecknics warm glow plug. The tiny mark is dead centre, hope you can see it.
Thanks, Michael. :)

That is not from the plug. The coil wire would be pulverized if it was hitting with enough force to ding the piston.

It looks like that is the the way the piston was made.

Okay, I would just have thought they made all the piston heads perfectly flat. But maybe they are thinking outside the box:bandit:. Thanks Rob:bow:

I can't see the ding... I see the photo, but I can't distinguish what's a ding on the piston...

I WANNA SEE DING!!!

For what it's worth, I've never had that either and I've had about 20 engines from various companies.

okay well just for you, I'm going to upload a high res pic to photobucket. If you imagine putting a neddle about 1mm into slab of butter, thats the kind of mark it is:surrender
Michael

I could see what you are describing in the last pic.
