I went to my local shop this weekend to get an upgraded pipe for my new Revo 3.3. I had my mind set on a Traxxas Resonator as I have done several searches on the forum. My LHS said that that wouldn't be the best pipe because traxxas was re-designing it due to problems. Is this True? He also said due to the high altititude most pipes will add some power to the top end but not a whole lot of punch on the start. His recommendation was new gearing and a pipe? I was hoping to add some punch without loosing the top end. What are your suggestions in terms of upgrades? Thanks

Rob,

Unless I have one of the redesigned ones, I have no complaints...I love my resonator. it is pretty strong in the areas it is supposed to be. As far as the elevation, I am sorry I can't help ya there. As far as the Resonator, it definitely has punch...Sometimes more than I can handle...LOL.

I ran the fantom works pipe on my 18TM and 2.5R revo. It was like breathing life into both engines. With that pipe and the 18TM, I had to regear to keep from flipping on it's lid all the time. With stock gearing, the 2.5R and that pipe, it would pull wheelies on a fairly regular basis. I never had the resonator to compare to it nor have I even seen the resonator in another persons truck, so I'm no help there. I just know between stock, stock with the stinger drilled out and the fantom, the fantom was by far the better setup.

I used the OS 18TM header with both the 2.5R and 18TM as well. I don't know if that makes any difference. I know the stock pipe, TM header on the 18TM was really restricting the engine. I ran it for about a gallon that way and even though the engine was much stronger through the entire RPM range than the 2.5R, running the fantom was like getting a new engine all over again!

Don't a lot of guys that run in higher altitudes also run higher nitro content to combat the thin air?

I broke the Revo 3.3 in with 20%. I guess I could switch to 30% and break in again. I'm Not sure how much of a power increase that would give. Thanks for the input guys. Has anyone had a chance to compare the Phantom works pipe with the Resonator. I'm guessing I can't go wrong with either. Any other suggestions in terms of a pipe/gearing combo? Or would I be ok with new pipe and stock gearing?

I have a resignator but I also run a Trinity. I run the Resignator on the 3.3 and the Trinity on my 2.5 and I almost feel as if the 2.5 could beat the 3.3. The trinity pipe really opens it up and lets you mill breath paired with a motor savor you got a hot setup. Jon is selling a sweet trinity for the same price i bought mine used at. You may want to check it out. Iv seen alot of pipes on the revo and I must say the Trinty is the best. Just watch out its a little on the loud side. But like I said the power will make up for it.

I failed to mention, the works pipe is loud as well. The stinger is pretty large in diameter so it breaths well. That coupled with the steel pipe makes it pretty loud, but it sounds cool.

Hey olds I'm thinking about buying one of those off ebay but I'm concerned that there so hot it cooks the shocks.

It does get hot and retain the heat... I have a few blistered fingers to prove it. I didn't really have a shock problem with it though.

This is a pic of it installed with the 18TM engine/header and stock mounting wire:

The bolt that screws into the body mount stripped out the hole eventually and I didn't use the stock wire with it very long. The hole was stripped from the stock pipe already. I made a shorter wire, drilled a hole in the body mount a bit higher than where the stock wire went and ran a bolt/nut through the body mount. This made for a more secure wire that wouldn't strip. I don't have pics of that though... I just drove it and didn't photo it much because I didn't change much until I went with a BB.
