I got my friends Nitro Rustler today for my roommate and my friend doesn't remember what fuel he ran. He said it was pink and a three letter abreveation. Does anyone know of any fuel like this? I'd like to find out so he doesn't screw up the engine since I've done that already. :opps:

Duratrax red alert is sort of pink, and has the three letter abbrevation of DRA. I would never run it in anything. The whole gallon went bad within a month, and I took care of it too. I only ran it in my Maximum MT pro. O'donnel seems to last the longest FYI.
 
I just need to find out what fuel he used. I sent him a link for the HPI fuel but he's asleep, I'll see if I can find a link for the DRA fuel and send him that too. Thanks for the help ADDAndy.

I screwed up an engine by switching fuels on accident somehow, I think my dad bought the wrong kind and it had been so lonh I didn't remember if it was the kind I used, or maybe I was just stupid. I was wondering if it was possible to mix fuels and gradually switch the engine over to a different brand... just an idea.
 
All you have to do when swithcing fuels is rebreak in the engine. If you rebreak the engine in then al should be fine.
 
You do not need to mix fuels. In fact, I highly recommend NOT doing so.

You can switch fuel brands and percentages as long as the fuel you are switching to is made for RC car engines. You could use fuel for aircraft or boat engines, but they may or may not contain the right percentage of lubricants that a car/truck engine needs.

When switching fuels, all you need to do is give the engine about a tank or two of "break-in" like treatment. Perhaps an idle tank and a slow running tank. Then go for it. This process gets the engine used to the new fuel burn characteristics and sets you up for success.
 
SkyMaxx is absolutely right on the "re break-in" with 2 tanks. The only pink fuel I've ever seen is the Wildcat fuel I use in my airplane engines.
Switch to a good fuel that's locally available, and stay with it.
 
You should be fine running any 20% nitro with a minumum of 12% castor/synthetic oil blend. I've tried Dynamite blue thunder, Byrons, Traxxas Top Fuel, WildCat Eliminator(I think) and trinity MHP 20%. The trinity mhp 20% has proven to be the most consistent and coolest that I've run out of all of them.

As others have said, when you change to a new fuel, you need to run it rich for a tank or so then re-tune to get good performance. Pink, purple, blue, yellow... as long as the percentages are comparable, just follow the advice of others here and re-tune.
