If you are making full throttle runs and taking the temp and it is only 200 max, you are probably a little to rich. These engines run a little warmer. But if it runs good, richer is always safer.

No, 200 degrees was just a starting point for a break-in. I like my engine to run around 220-240. However, since I put that 053 sidepipe on, I can't get the temps. down. It seems to want to run around 270 and there is still plenty of smoke coming out of exhaust. if I richen it to cool it down it bogs like it's too rich! Either it's running hot or my traxxas on board temp. gauge is not reading accurate. I surely don't want to burn up this new picco.

Does your engine run hot with this pipe?

Hey guys,
I didn't put the 053 pipe on yet bc it doesn't fit with the ez start. I ordered the ofna shaft start and backplate and just rec'd that. I had to lean the engine out quite a bit to stop bogging. temps are hard to get over 200. I'm probably 2 turns out on the HSN. Still see smoke but I'm using byrons and it seems that byrons fuel doesn't create as much smoke as the top fuel or blue thunder (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm cutting out on the decel so I believe i should richen the LSN a bit - the needles seem very sensative on this motor.
I don't think I had the motor over 210 - so I can probably richen more - power doesn't seem much better then the 3.3 - but I'm still breaking it in. between the holiday weekend and my anniversary coming this weekend I'm hoping to find time to run the truck

If your max temp is 270 and you have plenty of smoke and it is running well, then your all good. Just try not to push on 300 to much. Sounds like you are right in the ball park. Under 300,plenty of smoke, running good=good tune:)

You might also want to try an off-board temp sensor. Take the temp at the glow plug. That is usually more accurate than the onboard sensors.

Also an excellent idea :D

Use that to be more exact for tuning, then use your on board one just to keep an eye on things.

turns out that my onboard temp. gauge was off by about 12 degrees. and my tune was off a little because the pipe is making so much more power that it needed more fuel across the board. and 270 is ok for the picco? picco says not to run it over 250. :\

Anyway, it's making tons of power at 230 degrees now.

Thanks guys

Hey guys,

Finally got the roto start and 053 pipe on the revo. Haven't touched it in a while till this morning. I also trashed my crappy integy 3 shoe clutch and went back to the traxxas clutch with a 17 tooth CB. Had to grind the motor mount to get the mesh correct (traxxas big block mount gives you room to move the motor but the crank case hits the mount giving you no movment - so I grinded the mount). The 053 made all the difference. I can't keep the front end down on this thing. I have the center diff and rear breaks still waiting to be installed.
Are there any rear pipes that ill perform like the 053? I don't like the fact that I can't use my roll cage, gotta hack up the body etc... But overall this thing is running crazy

230 is a perfect number to be at if it's making the power. It will also run a little cooler after about a gallon when the pinch wears down a little. I kinda miss mine, but I love my Baja 5B SS that took it's place:)

throw a few washers or bushings under the tranny to get larger clutch bells in give ya a lil more room to play with the mesh what i did on my picco .26 red dot I'm runnin 17/38

pcco.26max doesn't look like it goin to be level with the spur gear wainting on engine mount for the revo3.3 hope it fits

I run the Picco .26 max and I haven't had any trouble with the stock tranny gears or any others for that matter. Like rob said, "adjust the slipper clutch" and make sure your clutch bell and spur gear is meshed right also. The only problems I've had is keeping the front end on the ground and eating spur gears when it's not meshed right. If the slipper is properly adjusted it will fix both of these problems to some extent. Metal gears are just going to add rotational weight, which will rob you of power. Oh yeah, I also run a Forward only conversion.

how do u adjust the gear mesh with no adjustment on the motor mount:)

The gear mesh is fine with the stock clutch bell. If you want to really wake up the .26 red dot - get the 053 exhaust. you will also lose your EZ start if you change exhaust. I went with the OFNA roto start. I had to put a bigger clutch bell b/c the truck launched to hard. I shimmed the transmission. I also have used the traxxas big block mount and then the new era thinking the new era would give me more clearance - no dice save your money - get some washers and shim the transmission a bit - will save a lot of headaches. In my opinion the traxxas bb mount was just as good a new eras.
once the .26 is in you will wind up with the new exhaust - it's just our need to be faster LOL - You will not be disappointed with the Picco - sick second gear wheelies etc - next is suspension, wider stance etc to handle the speed - never ending :)

Revo big block kit mount

Yeah! after a while, mine doesn't want to sit level because the holes in the mount aren't slotted, it's just a big hole. so, it starts to wear out after you've taken it off a few times. Mine has also taken a few hard hits. who knows, I know mine sucks!

I've heard the New Era mount is the best. It's billet, slotted and is fully adjustable. (front, rear and up and down) I just can't find the mount by itself and the kit is $49.00 !

I bought the Revo big block kit from traxxas and have since aquired a picco 26max. Is the mount that comes with the kit i have better than the ofna one?

badass

I have a revo 3.3 5309 edition. prolly 3 months old. My 3.3 connecting rod split down the center... i called traxxas and i think they will replace it for free... but my question is... while I'm engine swapping I've read/head that the picco .26 max will be a direct fit into my revo, along with buying the ofna mount for it. My main thing is that i do not want to have to do any cutting or grinding on my revo, but i want some more power. Does the picco .26 max fit directly in the revo without any mods? except for the mount? thanks in advance

fits in nice goes like hell i have a rd dual exhaust WOW1

Is the 0532 side pipe a great deal better than the THS 146B for BB engines? On the Picco 26max?

Hey ham I have a question about that. I have a hand held temp with a laser, where exactly do you take your reading, on the plug or the base where the plug screws in?

the top of the plug is what u want. dont watch the laser tho. there should be a seperate part on the gun where the reading is taken. put that over the glow plug. your looking for the highest temp that comes up. temp will take a couple of sec to adjust to what is actually happening in the motor. so after WOT it will still have that high temp as you pull the car up and check it. where as in fact the temp has dropped. not much tho...

I always take the reading at the glow plug.

As far as the RD Logics dual outlet exhaust, ditch it and get something that will not cause a lean running condition such as a good THS or ERCM pipe.
