Thanks Guys! Any other ideas on the picco install with the traxxas big block kit? Kinda feeling like I wasted money and should have got the new era mount. I would like to make this work but the gear mesh just wont line up.
Looking forward to getting the dynamite pipe soon I hear it is the best. first want to get the engine in and see the difference in performance with the stock exhaust

It's funny, the power difference between stock motor and the .26 with the stock exhaust is a nice little boost. Then the power difference between the .26 with stock exhaust and one with an 053 is even bigger than the motor swap itself. Have fun and I think you should invest in the new era mount. Your also probably gonna want a steel CB and spur. The Integy spurs are cheaper and I never had a problem with any of them.

Does the New Era kit work with the picco .26? because the new era parts description says that it doesn't.:\

Get the new era BB install kit. It is much easier to install and get the gear mesh to be right. You might need a few spacers to get the clutch bell where it needs to be but it is much easier than the TRX BB kit. I had bought the TRX kit first, and found out that in order to use it you couldnt use pull start, roto start, or ez start... only a bump start can be used with the TRX BB kit. So i bought the new era, and found out that it was much easier to install such as getting the gears to mesh, and you were able to use any starter you want. It simply just angles the engine up so the starter will not hit the a arm and the engine has a 40 ish degree angle. The TRX BB header that comes with the kit is crap, not worth using. I had used mine for the meantime untill i had gotten my rear exhaust for a BB, but in that time the pipe had totally crimped itself.
All in all, i know you already have the picco .26, but it is just more worth it to go get a TRUE big block with a new era kit, and get a THS BB exhaust system for the revo. I Love my setup. If i had pics, i would post them. Hope this helps, but i just had to learn from the mistakes i made when doing the conversion. trying to save you the same trouble.

this is the kit i bought, you can put up to a .32 motor in it and get true BB power. The picco .26 is just Big Block internals crammed into a small block casing. Which means thinner sidewalls there for easier to brake. the link from the above post will fit your picco .26

Revo Picco .26 red dot

Hey guys. I finally got the gears to mesh. I don't see how you can go with any bigger gears with the trx bb kit since the 15t CB was tight. fired up the picco and let it idle for one tank as per the instructions - had to richen it up from the factory picco settings to keep it around 230 degrees. I did use the ez start (you have to shave a little off the upper rear A arm). Will the dynamite 053 side pipe fit with the ez start? Also - any recommendations on glow plugs? The Picco plugs are twice the price of OS plugs.

yeah I think that was the main complaint, that you were very limited to the gears you could use.
Now that you mention it I think I did have a problem with the 053 and the ez-start where the header wraps around. I didn't keep the ez-start very long so I can't remember. I switched to a tiger drive and an ofna hand held starter with an adapter, and used a simple rechargeable glow plug igniter and it was much much much better.

And about the post above. I do not believe there is any reason for him to upgrade to a full big block. Especially when he already has the motor. Get a good pipe for it, break it in right, and then after about 1 gallon the pinch loosens and it becomes a monster. It will also cool down a little when it loosens as well.

I tried a few different plugs and this one was definitely the best I found for that motor. http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=OFN51007&click=3

These pics might help you out some with how the pipe and header fit on there.

JimD - Use a fan to cool down the engine when you're idling that initial tank. Just aim it at the cooling head and you can often lean it out instead of richening it. Factory settings are usually so rich that it can be difficult to keep an engine running.

Hey guys, Thanks for all the advice. Great pics too!
I'm a little uncomfortable with the side pipe - any pipes that will go in the stock position and give me the performance of that 053?
Any recommended glow plugs? Something that will work with the EZ start for now? I have a OS 8 plug in there but the EZ start wire doesn't clip on it.
Thanks again!

Try looking at the THS pies. I'm not sure of the exact model no. but you can search amd find several threads. If you can find an old Trinity pipe, those are great also.

Thanks! I just made an impolsive ebay purchase on the dynamite 053. Do you guys know if the ez start will fit?

Like I said before I believe the header hits the ez-start.

You could always get a cheap pull starter for now and upgrade later. Some people love having a pull start. I hated it. Love the one on my Baja 5B though:)

Thanks guys. I'm looking at the OFNA 50633 backplate and 50624 torque start. Unless anyone has other suggestions for the picco .26 red dot.

I had that backplate first but the 2 gears would not line up right even with the shims. I dunno, maybe its for the bigblock picco engines. I then got a Tiger Drive and that same torque starter with a venom 3000MAh battery, and one of the adapters on Ofna website(50639 I think. http://www.ofna.com/start-torque.html
This setup worked perfect.

Hey guys,

Trying to tune this red dot today. Needles are at factory setting (HSN Flush, LSN 1mm or two turns out from flush). If I rev it up over 1/4 throttle it just chokes out. Bogs like hell. Carb and backplate sealed with copper rtv when I place my thumb over the card opening it cuts out instantly indicating no air leaks. I believe it's too rich but afraid to lean out a new motor and blow it up. Does this sound to you guys like I'm just too rich and I should lean out the HSN?
Also has raw fuel coming out of the exhaust.

It sounds a bit rich to me, lean it carefully. You want a stream of blueish smoke, some oil is ok

I just rebuilt my picco 26, and tried those "factory" settings and my truck did the same thing. I then went back to my old settings from when I sealed my engine the first time. which was LSN 5 3/4 turns out and the HSN 5 1/2 turns out and it started right up and ran. I do believe I richened the HSN a little to keep the temps down to 200. You might want to try these settings and just tweak from there and watch your temp. good luck!

If you are making full throttle runs and taking the temp and it is only 200 max, you are probably a little to rich. These engines run a little warmer. But if it runs good, richer is always safer.
