I want to get a personal lap timer to help test and tweak my oval carpet mod racer. Is anyone using the Orion LCS Pro? It seems like a nice lap timer. Actually, it is the only one I can find that looks like it is designed for personal use. Any comments on this (or any) lap timer?

I had one, used it once for the Snowbirds a few years ago. It worked great when no one wants to stay up until 4am to time you during practice.

Another thing I use is a countdown timer from radio shack. I set it for 4:05, line up and press the start button and wait for 4:00. It beeps when 4 minutes is up. You need to count laps in your head though. They were about $10-15 when I purchased mine prolly 8 years ago. It will give you a good idea on a full run .

I should amplify my original question a little;

I need to time laps (each one) very accurately. A 1/10 second improvement will be a big improvement and there seems to be no real way to measure that without a personal lap timer like the LCS Pro.

Thanks

Exactly and it's good for that. My other suggestion works well also.

If you're racing modified pan car I wouldn't care about giving up a tenth up front. i'd be more interested in the best setup over 4 minutes.

Like I said, I used one and it was great. I sold it because I don't care about lap times, I care about full runs.

You racing at Radical Rick's?

Yes, Radical Rick's in Swansea. I am running the 19-turn mod class on Thursday nights there. Rick's is a nice place. He has been open less than a year and seems to be doing OK. I will try and support him as much as possible. I know there a a big ROAR event coming there in a couple weeks. You going?

Today I am gonna go check out the action at Big Boys Toys at the Galleria Mall in Taunton. They are racing indoor carpet today, but will open the outdoor nitro track next week. I definitely want to start racing one of my nitro trucks (or maybe a new one), plus I might like to get into another electric class.

You ever make it up this way?

I used to race at Johnston, RI at SK hobbies. They had the track from the place in Coventry, RI in a building there. That was like 96-99.

Haven't been to Rad Rick's yet but plan to at some point. I wanted to get up there for the ROAR race but won't have any time to get there and practice so I'm still up in the air about that.

Will that BBTs place race oval during the summer?

BBT's has indoor and outdoor track (one each). Both are technical, no ovals. Indoor is carpeted and is pretty big. Modified lap time (a good lap) is about 11.5 seconds. I don't know much about the outdoor track yet, but he is planning to start next Sunday, weather permitting.

I'm sure some of the top dogs will be at Rick's for the ROAR race. It should be interesting. I plan to go, just watching though.
