I just had to bitch about this one.....I know it was my fault.....Pearle white is actually a translucent coating not a solid "off white" sort of color.....well I spent like 3 hrs laying masks down on my new buggy lid and when I sprayed the first coat of pearl white I thought there was something wrong and I tried to layit on thick...bad idea the clear liquid turned all my masks into goo...not completely but it ate most of the adhesive from the paint tape and the window masks away leaving shriveled up parts all over.....so I have a new buggy body w/ one whole half of the car looks like poop and the other half I just did solid silver......learn something new every freakin day about this hobby.......all cause i used a paint I wasn't familiar w/......I'll get pics up tonite of the butchering.....just had to bitch now cause I was up til 1:30 trying to get it done for tonite......

Sorry to hear that man... I had a similiar disaster with some color change paint when I first started painting... Live & learn... Should have tried to remove it before it dried with some DA..

It didn't start to afect the tape right away after I realized I was going to have to tac layers of paint on I set it down to dry when I came back it was trashed and dried......I had a really cool theme too...I was doing that vanhalen guitar design but divided the buggy down th ecenter front to rear....and was gonna flop the colors in the pattern on the line...... now I have poopy windows on front and left side.......and the right side looks perfect.....

Dude that suck sorry to hear that happend to you :(. That had to be so frustrating. I had something like that with one of my diecast cars I painted. It was a 40 Woodys that I had spent many many hrs on I had even did some body mods to it anyway I had painted it purple pearl probally around 10 coats wet sanding it between each coat. It looked awesome!!! Until I decided to Clear coat it. I think there was to old or something I dunno but it bubbled everywhere It looked like sh-- I was so pissed that I never messed with it again lol. Mabe I should dig it out of all my parts and redo it, unfortunatly you can't do that :(. I was thinking mabe you could paint the outside on just the windows to make it look a little better at least just for bashing ?

I'll run it anyway...I ain't no prima donna about it...I was more pissed about all the masking work that went down th etoilet........I wanted to have a different body...right now I have a solid flourescent Orange one and it's getting pretty beat...I can still use it and I will till it just falls apart.......I might get another body today and try to do what I wanted....I'll just save that one for after the silver one dies......

sorry you had bad paint experience. masking does suck. I tried new paint to one time and the color was not what I expected since I used a wrong color to back it with. $30 for a lid that ended up being used at night when no one can see the horrible paint job.
Maybe you can still enjoy the lid by painting a light coat on the outside and top off with a light coat of clear to help protect it.

Was it Faskolor? If so, you could have easily stripped it off and remasked. I actually just use Windex and it all comes off. Yes, it's from experience. I have made much more than my fair share of screwups in my career!!! I guess it's a little late to suggest that, but maybe next time...

thanks for the tip....you can do that when the first coat has already dried???I let it sit for about 30 mins and when I came back the tape and the masks were all shriveled up.....I was pissed cause it had already bled into the front and side windows.....oh well....the side the stands can see is perfect anyway..LOL...and I actually got a cool idea I'd like to try for another body from the effect it created....ghosted pearl stripes.....kind of interesting effect I wasn't expecting.....

I have let a bad body soak in the sink with hot watter and a tad bit of bleach. I did this about 45 minutes after the paint was laid down. It took a bit of scrubbing in a spot or two but it came off. I used some steel wool to scrub with. It fogged the inside of the body in one or two spots but after it was painted again I couldn't see it.

A low flame or heat gun can cure that...just dont burn it.
