I got to it and orderd all the stuff for the MP servo, linkage, and bevel mods.

I decided not to go with HPI's bevels cause I've read they are weak. I looked for OFNA bevel gears but couldnt find what i wanted. Tower had some but it came with parts that i dont want to pay for right now.

I searched this site and found a thread that said the Kyosho bevels are the same size as the HPI's....so i went with these using Kyosho shafts ....

Very inexpensive....Great brand...!!!

I have 1k, 3k, 5k, 7k OFNA silicone oil already here. What should i use for racing???

Thinking of 3 ways in mind:

1) 5k front...7 k rear
2) 7k front...5 k rear
3) 7k in front and rear

oh yeah, do i need to mess with the center diff?? Seems like from what i have read...people have left that stock....????

Anyone?..i may have goofed...i think the kyosho gears are constructed of aluminum, rather than steel. Oh well, my LHS is only 15 min down the road now. Just wanted to save some money.

What about the diff oil?

I use HPI bevels (ended up with 4 unused large bevels though) and have no problems with them so far, but some other people were not so lucky, they went through several HPI bevels. I'm interested to hear how the Kyosho ones perform though. I don't think they are aluminium, but they do look like alum, don't they?
For some reason, I was thinking of OFNA when people talked about the alternative brand. Actually, it was Hot Bodies^^; Sorry.

The colour is just like the Kyosho ones... aluminium-ish. So you might have made the wise choice (great brand, cheap, no left over large bevels)

I have no idea about the diff oil, but I heard people use heavier oil in front for buggies?

I have heard bad reviews on using the Hot Bodies Bevel Gears. I would stick w/ the Kyosho or OFNA.

I don't use HPI bevels. I went for Hot Bodies Lightning steel bevels and I have had no problems. I also use 5000wt Kyosho diff gear grease front and back.

Hot Bodies part # C8101-1 Hard Steel Diff Gear Set (Lightning Series) $5.50

But I guess it's just a matter of preference when itcomes to parts.

The stock bevel gears are probably your best cost effective option. They are steel (hardened if I remember correctly) and will last longer than the Kyosho or Ofna.

Other than that, I'd say go with what you want. Once you get the Spider Gear mod in place, the odds of tanking the bevels goes down...dramatically. BUT that does not mean it can't happen. While this mod strengthens the diff it does not make it bullet proof. There have been a couple of threads on this site about guys burning up their diffs even with the spider mod in place.

Well parts came in and the Kyosho bevel gears are in fact aluminum. Here is an email that i received from R/C Zone Central...

Several people have tried the Kyosho gears

So, I will put these to the side and use the HPI bevels. Might even put the Kyosho bevels on ebay.
