Hye guys I just need to vent a little, my two oldest kids "step kids" are 10 and 8 yrs old and twice a month every other weekend they go to there dad,s house. Him and his wife are chain smokers and smoke in the house with both kids inside with them same goes in the car. They come home and smell like the have been at the freaking bar. Both kids have gotten extremely sick from the smoke inhalation , my son the 8 yr old got a ear infection from it and the doctor said his nasal canal was deteriating from the smoke. We have talked to that ass hole till we are blue in the face about the dangers of second hand smoke exspecially to children and it does no good he just keeps smoking around them. We have even had letters sent from there doctor and have went as far as having social services talk to him!!! I have just about fiddlesticking had it and about ready to woop his stupid ass . I know smoking is hard to quit I smoked for almost 10 yrs and it was a bitch to quit but I did it when my youngest son pleaded with me to quit because he diddnt want me to die, he was 4 then. And I never never smoked around any of my kids. I just can't understand how someone could cause so much harm to there own kids and not give a poop. And to top it off its only 4 days a month!! and he refuses to not even just take a step outside to smoke, man what an idiot. Anyone have some suggestions of what we might do? My wife was thinking of talking to a lawyer but I dont think there is much one could do for us anyway Its been seriously pissing me off and I needed to vent so thanks :hammer:

Preachin to the choir man. I get to see it nearly every day. I see nearly 80% kids in my clinic. And the majority of them suffer from chronic ear infections. And the first thing the ENT's will lecture the parents on is smoking around them. Not only does it provoke ear infections, it exacerbates asthma and other crappy respiratory issues. My ex and I had a few "discussions" about that when the docs told us our kids had asthmatic symptoms.

And Jesse, quitting is easy. Hell, I've quit smoking hundreds of times! LOL. Easy solution for them, tell them to just freaking go outside.

Man I wish there was something we could do it kills me to see them so sick because of his habit and they dont have a choice about the sitsuation at all and lol I too "quit" many many times before I quit for a long period of time its been 2 and half years and I still get the urge almost everyday.

I found that rum and tequila help lol :jk:

Granted it's a hard habit to break but a little courtesy goes a long way. I smoke but I am conscious of where I am and who I am smoking around. Before the ban of smoking indoors here in NYC, I never "lit up" at the table. I always went to the bar area. Now that smoking is banned all together, it still doesn't bother me. I don't even smoke in my own car! That's wht rest areas are for. I hate the smell of the nicotine and smoke sticking to the leather and carpet. My car still smells brand new ... well, except when I fart while driving but that's a different story.

Now your car smells like a brand new fart.

I smoke.
More then I should, but I take it outside.
I'll smoke in the basement when the kids go to bed during the winter, and I usually have the exhaust going.

Tell the dope to try to go outside or you'll bring him before the family court judge, and have a new talk about custody.

seriously talk to a lawyer. and bring medical records. thier dad and stepmom are willingly putting thier health at risk. your kids are also old enough now, that thier opinion matters in court, the decision wont solely be based upon it, but if your kids say they dont want to go there anymore. the judge will take it into consideration. it sounds to me like thier dad doesn't really care one way or the other anyhow. because if he did care, he would step outside to smoke those 4 days a month.

i feel for ya man. my son is 4 now, 5 this comming june. his mom and i havnet been together for 4 years. she's supposed to have 10hrs a week with him, she only takes him for 4 hours at her discretion. and every time he comes home, i get a story about how angery and mean mom is, and that he uses his best manners and she still yells at him. she gets mad at him for being hungery for christs sake.

Man, you're makin me miss my girls. Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the coin. My ex is the primary caregiver and I see them 2 weekends a month. Her and I aren't at odds. Hell, we get along better now than when we were married. But they live 60 miles away. So I only see them once in a while. I talk to them on the phone all the time, but it ain't the same. Geez, you guys are bumming me out!

Man, get a lawyer, it may cost some money but will be well worth in the long run. Corrado threw some good advice out there. I'd do whatever it took to keep the kids from it, even if it meant breaking the rules and not letting "puff" see the kids. Or just tell the guy you'll break his freakin neck if the kids come home smelling like smoke again.

I did the patch when I quit, used it about 2 weeks and fiured if I went that long without smoking I could continue on my own. 3 years, no smokes. Good luck

Thanks for the ideas guys I just wish he would pull his head out of his ass and see what hes doing to the kids. I want to jump in my car and go to his house right now and wake his ass up and tell him if he smokes around the kids I'm going to throw him a beating of a life time!!! He is affraid of me one time he got pissed at my wife because the kids got to his house 10 minutes late and he called her up calling her all kinds of names, so when we went to pick them up I usally stayed in the car , not this time I walked right up to the door and when He seen me he ran back in to the house he knew I was pissed!!! lmao then he sent his mommy out to talk to my wife what a punk.

Seriously, not to get down on you but if you don't do everything you can to get full custody of those childeren, your almost as bad as that butthead smoking in front of the kids.

Sounds to me like you pretty much have full custody now...the court may say you have to let them spend every other weekend w/ the father but if their health is at risk don't let him take them...Do the kids like going? are they just going because they have to? does the father do anything w/ them while they are w/ him? if not then let them stay home and let him file the petition...chances are he won't and if he does you have a slew of documents on your side.....My ex does smoke around my daughter but we have Equal custody..so it's hard fo rme to get any legal action taken w/o a big court case....I'll tackle that case after I know I'm not screwed.....I have her one week and her mom the next...we live fairly close to each other so her life is not upset by the switching parents thing...but if he kids don't want to go to daddy then don't force them...make the scum bag see that his own kids don't want to be around someone like that.......I have a blast w/ my kid I figure if I can get here outside more then she'll have all that fresh air to flush out the smoke.....tried to LOL but it just seemed wrong.....

The kids do like going over there and my daughter has been pleading with him and his wife to quit our neighbor just recently died from lung cancer and the kids really liked him made a big impact on them The kids want to spend time with him thats what makes all of this really hard for us it would seem the simplest thing to do was not to let them see him anymore but even though hes an butthead hes important to them. We actually have "legaly" joint custody but he doesn't want them more than every other weekend. His wife is in a wheel chair and he tells the kids if she doesn't smoke she will cry WTF they both easily could just go out side on there porch and by the way they live in a very small old mobile home and thats why they are getting so much exposure to the smoke. His wife told mine well if it bothers them that much they can just go in there room, yeah right the smoke is everywhere in there house, you can smell it from out on the street!!!. Either way we are going to do something about it, this is B.S!!!!!! I have never met anyone as selfish as this ass and his wife!!! One time our daughter was very sick "Probally from his dumb ass" anyway the perscription was very exspensive and we couldnt really afford it so my wife asked him to help out and I couldnt believe what that piece of poop said. I just bought a brand new truck and can't afford to help you WTF!!!!! Then he has the nerve to come over in the middle of the week a couple days later to show off his new dodge truck, while I'm driving a beat up 74 Chevy truck lol that is the only time he has ever came over to see the kids during the week in the 7 yrs I've been in there lives. Man I'm getting all worked up again!!!!!

hey just know he's a peice of poop for saying my truck is more important than my daughter's health.....I sold my bronco to get my kid and my ex into a better home when I moved back down here.....I loved that truck, but I love my daughter more....I take it this guy just doesn't hear anything when you tell him somethings wrong......well if it comes down to it I'm sure you can get full custody.....adn limit them from going to his house...if he truly loves his kids then he can spend some time w/ them at the park for a day instead of OK you're w/ daddy now go tot you rroom and watch TV til you go home to mommy....I see so many divorced fathers do that and it just pisses me off....

Yeah its messed up, I sold my 400 hp Plymouth when I found out I was going to have my son hes 6 now and man I loved that car hehe It would smoke both back tires for about 2 blocks but I couldnt afford it with a son on the way, the car got 7 miles to the gallon on the highway and about 3 in town lol cost a fortune just to drive it to get grocierys lmao. Mabe I should come down to florida Plaid you and I go visit them punks that stole your stuff and set them straight hehe then you can come here and we can go talk to dumb ass and teach him a little lesson in being a father to bad I diddnt have the plymouth would be a real good get away car lol

yeah I just had to put the 3.0 and stock tranny back in my truck to get it back on the road....WHAT A DOG now....I even had to pay to have it done...... crap....I think I'm gonna sell the 5.0 and the truck and get some little economy car like a matrix or something.....I just need a little vehicle now...no boat or motorcyles or anything I need to trailer behind me anymore.....RCs would fit in the trunk.....that could be a decent little gettaway car.....well I'm not planning my assualt....YET....

O man I can't stop laughing at this one!!!

Jesse,

Bro I hear what you are saying. I have been smoke free since 97 and have enjoyed every breath since. I had always taken smoking outside as to respect friends and people around me. Now the ones that complained that I was even smoking even outside they got an earful. I am just glad that I was blessed with strong will to quit and stay away. I admire your love for your kids and hope that things get better. Its funny that there are so many comercials stating how bad second hand smoke is but there are no laws to help kids when indoors. ..... Go figure.

I have quit and restarted several times. My quit periods range form one year to three years.

Why do I keep restarting?

It's childish, it's immature, but it's my last stand against the self-righteous liberals who always seem to think they can tell me what to do. I know, that's a stupid reason, cutting off my nose to spite my face, but it's a personal thing.

I've also found that ex-smokers are often the worst of all, somehow in their mind their way of thinking is the only RIGHT way. I can understand that one has to assume this attitude to quit, but assume it for yourself. It doesn't give you some unique right to judge anyone else any more than a right-wing religious person has the right to tell me how to pray.

HOWEVER. The absolute same thing is true of SMOKERS: THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO AFFECT THOSE AROUND THEM WITH THEIR HABIT. This is just wrong on so many levels it's impossible not to see. You are 100% correct in your feelings, go kick some legal ass.

I have ALWAYS smoked outside. My daughter never grew up in a smoke-filled house, and my responsibility goes one step further - I carry a round spring-loaded "pocket ashtray" everywhere I go, all my butts go in that.

Littering sucks ass too.

I think that for what ever reason a smoker needs to smoke , leave to do it.

Being an ex smoker gives me a new respect to breathing. It also pisses me off that there are smokers that smoke in an area intended for non smokers or children are present.

I know that I have quit for MYSELF and no one else. I quit so that I would be able to play with my son and future kids. I quit for me and no one else.

imo having to go outside.. or away from the group to get your fix.. helps in the quitting.. i smoked for about 5 years and have been smoke free for about 5 or 6 months.. but back to the subject.. take his ass to court.. if he wont listen to you he will listed to the judge and if he wont listen to the judge he will have to answer to bubba.. ya know.. maby he needs a reality check..

squeal like a pig boy!!!
