Well, got the box to turn the engine. Took some finessing and making sure the alignment was right. I did what you told me last night. I took out the plug, put some after run oil in in and let it turn for all it's worth!

Tried to start the engine today. Aligned everything up with the rubber wheel. Loosened the glow plug just slightly. presssed down .... NOTHING. Rechecked alignment, but this time gave the wheel a running start (after making sure the piston was on the exhaust/intake stroke) ... VOILA ... it turned the engine but didn't turn her over.

I know the box can turn her over ... when I make sure the piston is on the down stroke. She turns fine .. piston is singing but won't start. Wassup pussycat? WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA!:censored:

Now I'm stuck charging the glow starter. I think I'm gonna go and get a glow starter that takes regular batteries just for a back up.

MUDDA FUDDA! this thing is pissing me off. Good thing I don't live in the tampa area NM, otherwise I would be knocking on your door for help!

Man, makes me wanna put the pull start mill back in and reserve this box for a 1/8 buggy. I know, there's a learning curve with a box, just like the learning curve for the pullstart.

AAAAAAAAARGH! Makes me wanna bang my head on the work bench, not that I haven't already :doh:

is ur glow plug good? if i was u even if i did light up i would buy me a new one if it isnt already!! and then try, after that i dont know what to tell ya

Glow plug is new. Whole engine is new. Still trying to break it in, gotta get it started first.
 
Try this take out the hair dryer and heat the head to 175* then make sure the engine is at BDC. Then try it will cause the sleeve to expand and let the piston move easer.
 
Thanks "imnotsure" i did that and it helped it turn. I found out that I had the needles too rich. Because of that, I was basically drowning the plug ... just as NM said earlier in a phone conversation we had this evening.

NM, I got it to run! only prob is that it scared the bejeez outta me. Remeber what I said I did earlier when I had my head level with the stinger? Stupid me, I did it again .. only thing this time is that it was all exhaust being shot out at me.

I did as you said and leaned it out ... I think I leaned it out way TOO much. The wheels started spining and I had to shut it down right away. I am leaving the break-in for tomorrow. I was just happy that it turned over. Now I REALLY smell like nitro because of the exhaust. poop, I should've had a video of me starting it. I might have won the prize on America's Funniest Home Videos. The look on my face said it all!

Another reason, the real reason, why I am putting it off for tomorrow was because of the Mrs. She called me on the intercom and her tone matched that "look" of a really pissed off Filipino woman.

I should get her an r/c so that she can understand the frustrations I go through with this hobby.

As I said earlier in another post, I'm gonna go to the bash and when she finally finds out that I bought a buggy, I'm hidding behind you guys and tell her that you, NM, made me buy it! :shy:
 
Glad you got it running. When I first got my box, I had the polarity mixed around and the wheel was spinning the wrong way. I didn't know. Would never start my car. Tried and tried. Went to bed and looked at it the next day... Ahhhh. I felt so stupid. I love bumping it instead of pulling the crap out of the string.

I told you it had to be one of those small details that we miss when we are anxious and frustrated,, now, I said lean it a little, see you didnt listen and thats why your car pissed in your face,,, hahahahahaha!!! glad your all go! when you break in tomorrow dont put your face so close to the stinger, well, unless your into that kinky rc stuff! looking forward to seeing you at the bash, but I dont know how your gonna convince your wife you just drove all those miles to drive your ntc3 on an off-road track! I would tell her about the buugy in the trunk or you will be in the trunk on the way home! LOL!

I COULD KICK MYSELF! :opps:

I just found out something. Remember how I was saying that the box couldn't turn over the engine? Thought it was bogging down the starter, remember? Well, I snuck down to ponder over the car for a few more minutes. I noticed that the car was just a hair off center of the rubber wheel when I was checking the alignment. So, I reset the mounts on the front of the car just to get it straight ... btw NM, you only sent 1 mount, I had to find a small piece of plastic and screw it tight with a small washer for a makeshift mount. Now that the car sits square on the box and hits the wheel perfect ... it starts up every time! ... no bogging down unless I don't check to see if the piston is all the way down and enough juice in the battery!

:w00t: Now I don't have to kneel down to make sure it's hitting the rubber wheel just right and risk a face full of exhaust! BTW, hate to admit it, but blowing into the stinger (no pun intended) works. She started up in like 2 secs!!!!!!!!! YEHEEEEEEEEEEEY!

Thanks for all the help and putting up with the phone calls NM. Man, this was a brain stumper! 2 days and nights of frustration trying to figure it out. Rule of thumb ... when you can't figure it out, ask for help but most of all, step back; take a breather; and calm down. NM, I owe you one! BTW, you can keep the money for the starter box now, I'm not gonna demand my money back :hehe:

Glad to hear it ! there are so many rules of thumb to this hobby, we learn most of them by mistakes, and those mistakes usually happen out of frustration, The car is just another dead object that can't tell you what its problem is! so that makes it even more frustrating! I didnt know about the plastic adjustment pegs, I thought there were two on the box when I sent it to you, glad you were able to get it rigged up! As far as the money goes, I aready spent it on Crack and hookers!
