I've read that most people prefer to shoot lacquers rather than water based but I'm wondering why that is exactly. I painted a body last weekend in my hobby room and didnt realize it until that night that I had been breathing in to much lacquer fumes inspite of my respirator and my spray booth. Made me sick for 2 days. The problem wasn't so much when I was actually spraying its after. Once I'm done the room still fills up with lacquer fumes in spite of the door being open and a fan being on.

Because of that I was thinking about trying out water colors inspite of the fact that most people seem to prefer lacquers. I've watched a couple youtube vids of people shooting water based paints like Faskolor and it looked to me like they went on just as smooth as any lacquers I've used. In fact on guy I watched a couple of videos from, If he hadnt said he was using faskolor Id have never been able to tell he was using water based instead of lacquer.

So I guess my question is why is it most people prefer the lacquer over the water based? Is water based harder to get right for some reason? Also would appreciate any tips on shooting waterbased as I'm pretty sure I want to try and go that route since I dont really have the proper space to do the lacquers, like a garage for example.

I really liked Faskolor when I started airbrushing, had alot of luck with it too. But after a while I started having trouble with moisture, was running two traps too and was trying thinned and non thinned and still had trouble. But when I would spray Spaz lacquer, it would be fine every time. So that might be something to think of, future use.

Try pactra Acryl instead of standard Pactra. It is a waterbased paint and performs much better than Fascolor.

As far as the rest of your questions. I just answered in a fair amount of detail in another thread quite recently. I don't recall which thread though.

Cool, thanks for the heads up on Pactra Acryl....wasn't aware of it. Sorry for the reasking of information. I dont recall that post but I'll go back and reread the old ones. My memory sucks, bare with me :)

I gotta be honest with ya SlowG....After the massive headache and relative feeling like crap for 2 day I'm not to anxious to try my hand at lacquers again. At least not until spring/summer when I can set them outside after I paint them

You totally did answer that question already Lessen...thanks for reminding me. I guess I got focused on using the lacquers at first and wasn't really paying attention to the acrylic part of the conversation.
