well i think i might have pulled the cord to long and now it wont retract unless i pull it nearly all the way and then it slowly recoils. what do i do??

I'm thinking of a rotostart but thats just more stuff to lug around but i think it wouldnt bother me as i just bash at my yard....

I just wasted the P/S on mine and I had a New Rotostart in my pile so I slapped it on. LOL I hate that thing but it'll stay till I get sick of it. I like P/S better. No extra crap to lug around and I know my one way will survive a little longer. The Pullstart assembly wouldn't retract on ine due to the plastic housing breaking inside so get a new P/S. Some LHS give the Rotostart dirt cheap. I got this one for 22 and tax. Shop around.

well my p/s is completley dead wont retract at all, want come out at all. it pissed me off. so what should i do?

it wont budge at all, i think around a week ago i accidentally pulled it too far and the only way it would recoil would be to pull it to where it wouldnt come out anymore, and yesterday i tried to start it pulled it 3 inches, wouldnt recoil, 3 more, still nothing, so i kept pulling like i had before to get it to recoil and now its just stuck all the way out

Loosen the screws that hold it on a bit and see if it goes in?
I had to put a paper shim between the backplate and pullstart on my 24/7. Finally had to get both.

tore it down and found the problem.

you guys know how the starter cord wraps around a spool like object to recoil? well, the rope sliced through that and ended up getting tangled all up inside the hexagonal fitting... so the spool looks kind of like MS. Pacman

i managed to get the cord out and i think that a hot glue gun can shut MS. Pacmans mouth and after that i can wrap the rope back around and be good to go.

i just have some questions... will a hot glue gun hold it together ok?
and how do i fit the spool back inside the pull start housing onto that spiral like silver thing?
or should i screw it and buy a new p/s

you could rebuild it.. I've done it befor.. but hot glue prolly wont hold.. if you can get a new p/s cheeply i would do that.. caue your gonna be messin with that thing for a few hours..

I think the glue from the hot glue gun would melt and create a big mess. I had something hot glued that was in my motorcycle saddlebag and it melted pretty easy. and that's only at 90-100 degrees.

o well, i just finished gluing it but ill probably scrap it off. being just beneath a 300+ degree exhaust port id probably be a big mess.

off to the hobby shop...

I would NOT recommend hot glue. You might be able to soder it or something, but you should prollu just buy a whole new P/S setup. Rotostart would sure save you a bunch of BS in the long run tho. If your going to spend the money get something easier... Just my :2cents:

The 4.6 is different. I use a Super Start from Duratrax. It's a lot beefier than the HPI Roto Start.
here is the link:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHPR0&P=7

comes with the backplate. It's cheaper than the roto start, but.... requires two 7.2 volt batteries (won't work with just one). It has two motors and the batteries are in series for 14.4 volts. It really cranks the engine with authority.

the .21 and .25 are the same pullstart, as far as I know. Check your manual for the HPI item #, and compare it with the item number in the upper right corner of the tower page for this item.
