do i need to use any lubrication on the 1st gear OWB after i take it out to clean it? this is on a LST2.

I agree with Karl. First I clean off the shaft with DA and I dampen a paper towel with DA and spin the bearing on it. Then I apply a few drops of light oil like 3-in-1.
