over heated battery

my damn battery is getting way hot, what can i do?
i swap the motor from a 16 turn dbl to a 11 turn double, it is a kyosho terminal velocity but the battery is getting super hot, the ESC is a duratrax streak but the only thing is that the esc was made for 12 turns or more and can handle 4 to 10 cells, the batteries i use are 3000 nimh hi-voltage panasonic cells 8.4vlts, i also put 5 capasitors and the diode that came with motor, i am running 22/81 and the truck is a ultra light weitht modified rustler,
any ideas?????

I can't help you with your battery but you are right it has ben real slow today(speed of replies). Everyone is out racing. Although you might want to try the fowling things : new battery, new esc, different charger.

You didn't have that problem with the other motor, right? Batteries get hot when they discharge fast from a hard draw. I guess you didn't change the gears when you swapped motors.
If you regear it, it won't draw as much power to run, but you also give up the higher speed you were looking for. Also, if you are running in the grass, or rough surface, it draws a lot more power than running on asphalt.

just running on dirt, what gear would you suggest?, i am running 22/81 and like i said the truck is not as heavy, i have trimmed out a lot of the chassis and other things, and by the way the batteries are new.

It's been quite a while since I messed with winding my own motors, but your new motor is higher RPM, rather than higher torque, right? You just might have gone too far for that car with it's current gearing.
To gear it down, less teeth on the pinion, or more on the spur.

well, i tried the 18t, and the battery still got hot, the engine was running @ 150 degrees and the battery was @ 160, hot,hot, what else can i do?

Try running it on 6 cells instead of 7.

Are you running it untill your 3000mah battery runs out, and then checking the temp? If you want to keep your same setup, run a lower mah or don't run it the full length of the charge on your 3000.

If I were you I'd keep gearing it up. It's most likely getting hot because of over gearing. Your motor is a more high rpm motor, therefore it has to try harder to run at lower rpms thus more strain and more heat. If you're still running just as hot as before you tried the 18t, try a 16t and see how that does it.

Ohh and you might be straining your esc also. Check the temps on your esc as well and make sure you're not killing that thing.

i just run it until i feel that the charge starts going down, i will get a couple of new pinions and spur gears on monday, and by the way the esc is working @ a normal temp.

it works a lot better with the 16t pinion, the battery did not get as hot as it did, thanks for the help, you can go to my gallery and see two of my 1/10 elect stadium trucks.
