Sky might be one of the computer geeks that can help me here but I have just received my new computer and am trying to configure outlook to be used for www.cox.net as my mail server. The instructions for setting up a mail server is for outlook express but I would prefer to use outlook if possible to use for my mail server. Can anyone lend me any assistance?

1.) Open Outlook Express
2.) File>Idenities>Add New Idenitie
3.) Follow the steps
4.) Your ISP should of supplied the POP 3 email information. If it is HTTP mail choose that from the drop down menu. choose http://www.cox.net for incoming mail(HTTP mail only)
5.) Put you login information in for your email.

This may or may not help but is it POP3 email for HTTP?

I am not gonna take the time to take you off iggy list to read this but from what matts is saying I think this is what you want email setup Cox does it by region. If it aint cox then I just wasted you time for not reading you posts huh. X

OUTLOOK...is a bit different from setting up Outlook EXPRESS.

Go to Control Panel...mail, you'll have to build your profile.
Show Profiles
Add
Select the radio button for "Manually Configure services"
Next
Give your profile a name
Next
Add
add Personal Folders first
then add Internet E-Mail
and then finally here's where you plug in all your server information....

Need any more help...PM me - you can call me.

There are a couple of ways to skin this cat, Pirata. That and the keyboard problem you mentioned in another thread. Retread has you on a good start for the OUTLOOK issue. I personally start with right clicking on OUTLOOK and selecting properties and going through that route. There is also an internet setup tool that helps to configure OUTLOOK. You can give me a ring, or follow the steps that Retread has given you.

As for the cox information. Cox is a POP3 server set-up.

The inbound mail for this area is POP.EAST.COX.NET
The outbound mail for this area is SMTP.EAST.COX.NET

You will need your username and password information to make things go smoothly.

You should be set-up on a DHCP server...so you shouldn't really need to get an IP.

Let me know if there's more you need.

I have tried setting up the profile through the OE and mail/fax in the control panel but to this time Outlook is still not receiving/sending mail.

XP, but I want to run outlook not outlook express and the directions are only for OE. I need a program that has a calander that is opened daily to remind me of important things coming up.

Oh man. I am sorry El Pirata. I looked at your post but not close enuf I guess. I use Outlook for my e-mail. Lets see if I can get ya thru.

I am assuming it goes straight to the program? The first time you run the program it starts the add new account wizard. If it goes right to the program here is what you need to do. The same applies if the wizard starts.

Go to Tools then to accounts.
Click on the Mail Tab
Click Add then Mail.
Type in your Name
Type in your Email Addy
Choose your mail sever either IMAP or POP. Mostly likely it will be POP.
Then the name of the incoming and outgoing mail servers. You should be able to find these off of those directions cox provides or call em up.
Type in your account name (usually the same as the your email addy) and the password (if you so desire). Clikc on close and then send and receive. You should be all set. LMK if you have another question. If you have aim my name is jrmcvi.

Is no one going to address the fact that Normal Outlook is a pain in the Arse and the is really no reason to use it unless you want to hit and SMTP. I would reccomend you just uninstall OUTLOOK and use outlook express its much easier to configure and use. X

What in the world are you talking about X? The whole line of "unless you want to hit and SMTP" doesn't make any sense. There is nothing wrong with Outlook. I have been using it since Outlook 97 came out and it has worked perfect since. :) El mentioned that he needs the calendar portion of Outlook for various things. OE doesn't have that feature. Sure he could download another program but why?
