I've heard lots of talk that you should always test your transmitter and reciever to see what your range is, but i have never seen any information for if your car does go out of range. Are there any dangers of your car getting out of range of the transmitter? Or is it as simple as walking a few paces towards your car and then driving it closer to you, or do you have to stop and restart your engine?

If a nitro gets out of range, it most likely will go full throttle until it hits something. You best insurance for this is to install a failsafe which will immediately apply the brakes if the receiver looses the signal. Best $20 you will ever spend and cheap insurance.

I know for a fact that Spektrum recievers come with a built in failsafe, and the new TMaxx 3.3's Optidrive has a built in failsafe.

I don't think the Traxxas Opti-Drive has a built-in failsafe. I know my Revo's Opti-Drive didn't have one.

My Maxx's Optidrive definitely has a built in failsafe. I know it works on both radio signal loss and dead batteries because my radio batteries died one time, the truck was at around half throttle when it cut out to idle, and all I could do was steer. Turns out the red power light on the TQ-3 was blinking, a sign of dead batteries :) Also my reciever pack died once and it went to idle.

Plus, if I turn off the TX with the RX on, it goes to idle and a little red light comes on on the Optidrive.

It's probably one of the newer features that Traxxas came out with.

EDIT: http://www.traxxas.com/products/nit...ints/manuals_instr/051216_tmaxx33_own_man.pdf page 12 near the bottom, left column where it has the optidrive with the red light on it.
