i have a savage that is really light and has a three speed build for racing, and i want a motor that is really reliable and wont put much wear on the truck. do u guys think a os 21vg will have enough power for the savage :first_place:

will it have enough to make it fun or is it just not enough power

Yup, you can get the Axial .28 Spec 1S for around $100 new. If I can sell my 18B, I'm gonna probably go that route, or maybe the Ofna .28.... Choices, choices....

well the whole thing isn't $$ and I'm not going with worthless crap (axial) for an engine i want something that is really dependable and that will not make me have allot of wear on the savy. i just run with a couple guys at our homemade track and it mostly will come down to skill, instead of speed. i just want to know if the little engine will push a lightened savage, with a 3 speed.

Yes it will, check that it fits first. I have heard that some older model O.S. 21's did not fit in a Savage. The Savage originally came with the Nitrostar .21 with something like 14/49 gearing with a 2-speed. As long as you gear it correctly it will work fine.
Speaking of the Nitrostar .21, it is a good little engine. They impressed me in a stock Savage and in a B.B. converted T-Maxx.

If you want reliability then OS is what you want. I say the 30VG personally. That's what I ran and the torque was incredible.

but i dont want incredible torque i want i high reving, non fuel guzzling engine that wont pput wear on my truck. any other good 21 out there

Picco .21 BAS is awesome and only 109 bucks at Amainhobbies.
You can get it in roto or pullstart. I HIGHLY suggest the roto version. It's a very tight engine to break in.

SH also makes a good .21 engine for not a ton of money. The p8 is an awesome high revving easy to tune engine.

thats a bump start engine only, but thanks I will definatly look into the sh 21 and picco thanks guys

It is a good engine but more suited to a buggy. The 3 port engines make more torque down low generally than engines with higher port counts.
That is why I suggested the Picco .21.
Don't be fooled by the price tag, it has the Picco craftsmanship inside. It is stronger than the .21 VG by far.
Everyone who has driven this engine of mine loved it, even pro drivers.
Very smooth broad powerband and runs right with the big dogs.

thanks i will definatly pick up one when i get paid this weekend. Thanks for the help!

would it be worth getting it modded and if so were and are there any resonable places to get it done

The modding would be beneficial. I do not know of anyone who mods for under 80 bucks.
TNtmodz does excellent work for 100 dollars. AB Mods has a particular interest in Picco's, I'd bet he can make it scream.

A little heads up for ya. I'm mounting my Picco in my Savage right now. The savage engine mount has to be lightly dremeled on the inside for the engine block to drop in without squeezing the engine. ALL Picco BB engines have slightly larger crankcases than other brands. It is no big deal and only takes 2 minutes to remedy.
Also look into a pipe for it. A 2053 style pipe works good on it. A JP-3 works nice too but does not fit without modification as it is a left hand mount pipe.

yeah i had to grind the mount to but the picco .28 in my revo to. i al bidding on a tm728 right now if i lose i will get the picco .21
