My dad just swapped in a 3.3 in his old skinny tmaxx. He has the rdl tmaxx dual exhaust w/quad tips and the rb innovations generic cold air filter sticking out the hood of his maxx...it comes with a long plastic tube. I will be running a widemaxx with the drop in OS .18 FOC tuned rdl pipe for the .18 in the maxx. I also have the ram air kit from rb that is made for the tmaxx. Do i stand a chance?

Umm.. you both should get rid of the cold air intake if they are paper filters. Also, your dad should get a good tuned pipe. He will get a lot more power out of it if he does.

As it is, you will probably take him. The 18TM and TRX3.3 are almost the same as far as power output goes. Unless you have the 18 cv-r... then you could be hosed. Unless his pipe kicks him in the teeth.

The motorsavers are 2-stage filters which allows for better filtration. Nitro motors are very sensitive to dirt and need all the air cleaning they can get.

Did your dad have any problems getting it to run with RDL dual stinger pipe? My buddy has one for his Savage with an OS .30 and we can't get it run past mid-range with stalling the motor, like it doesn't have enough backpressure to keep the fuel tank pressurised.

no he has gone through to tanks but we are still breaking in. right now he has taken earplugs and put them in the exhaust trying to build more backpressure and quiet it down. should we be using a heat gun to tell what temp we are running while breakng in? and what method would you use on the os motor. my dad is strickly following the trx 3.3 break in, but we have no heat gun. i also think my rusty needs tuned(2.5) it is spittin alot of gas out the back. any sugs?

http://www.rbinnovations.com/catalog/images/tmaxx_ram_air2.jpg is the intake i had coming in from the lhs...what is wrong with that intake? i know everyone is saying run motorsaver filter.http://www.rbinnovations.com/catalo...id/44?osCsid=cada09ef5cee5ad7732aff67fc293e49 is what my dad is running with a long plastic tube sticking out the hood.

Both of those filters are paper filter elements that aren't really intended for RC use. They allow fine dust particles to get into the engine and shorten it's life. Your better off running a foam type oiled filter that is intended for RC.

Alright the new motor (OS) is in. I opted for the motor saver and the rdl exhaust. The truck is FOC and pull start. Hoping i can take dads 1.5converted 3.3 everything on he is running the ez start so i should weigh less even with my hub extenders. Any tips for break in on th OS. I am just going to loaf around for the 5 tanks leaning out 30% after each tank...then after the 8th tank tune for performance. Both motors are being broke in on blue thunder 10%.

well my pull start exploded this morning and for sake of break in i threw on the easy start. wow that thing started easy...with break in temps hoverd in the 180-190...reaching up to 260 when revving up against the wall. The high temp was only for maybe a sec a quick drive cooled it right down back to 220 the shortly after 184.

reaching up to 260 when revving up against the wall.
i can't help but to think but thats not the great on your clipper clutch if the wheels aren't moving but the engine is revving

should we be using a heat gun to tell what temp we are running while breakng in? i also think my rusty needs tuned(2.5) it is spittin alot of gas out the back. any sugs?
the answer is
yes to the temp gun
and yes on the tuning a little fuel out the exaust is ok but to much means its running to rich lean it out just a bit at a time

the slipper clutch will be alright since its not slipping, i have been tuning on the rustler today, it pulls hard as hell all the way up but then sometimes it will shut down at the top, so i richen it up agian it is fine lean it out it quits so i think i have it pretty well dialed in. how much do you guys play with the metering needle?

say its a clock and say its setting on 1o'clock move it to 2o'clock "one hour" at a time
