For those of you running an OS .18 TM in your Revo, does your mill tend to run a tad hotter than other mills? I seem to run about 270-280, although it has spiked over 300 a time or two, but seems to run fine. I've checked for leaks, even rebuilt that fuel tank lid, replaced the fuel lines, RTV on carb and back plate. If I try to richen it up, it runs horribly. I'm just curious if this is something limited to just me or if this mill tends to run a bit hotter.

Wow! That does seem kind of high for an OS... My 18 cv-r(x) ran well at 210-220. My other OS engines all ran well in that temp range too. OS 21 RG (2 of them), OS 15 CV-R(X) (2 of them as well).

But the OS 18 TM/TZ are higher performance engines... I remember reading someone was getting good power out of his at 190 though.

Is the engine still new? On mine the temp start to drop after a gallon. Before that you just have to watch the throttle, alwaz check the temp and slow down a bit if you have to. After a gallon, the engine is at peak and just let it rip.

Hey Monkey, the TM from my experience will run a little hotter for the first several tanks. Mine did it and two of the guys I race with did. Then it just settled right in and will run with minor adjustments to the days conditions right around 240 and that's after running hard on the track. What kind of temp gauge you using? And can you get ahold of another to cross check it? Are you getting good smoke? How's the perf seem. 270 seems a little warm but it could be the difference in your temp gauge too! Unfortunately I'm not going to get in that race in Columbus or I'd say bring and we could work on it.

Bummer Jet! Oh well, maybe next time. I have a Venom failsafe on it, but crosscheck with a Dynamite gauge as well. I probably only have about 8 total tanks in it (including break-in) so I'll run it some more and keep it a tad on the rich side. I've tried to compensate for ambient temperature, but as Jet can attest, weather in Cincinnati is a carpshoot at best.

Yeah run it a little fat for the next couple of tanks. At least you do have two gauges to go by so your not wondering if it's your temp gun or not. I want to say mine went through break in great but once I ran it until maybe 1 gallon give or take it was pretty consistent around 275 but with good smoke and perf. So I didn't much worry about it, then all of a sudden temps would hold good around 245 all the time and she runs like a raped ape! BTW, any schedule out yet for 06 over there at Dirt? Probably try and hit a big race or two there if they have any. Also, I'll let you know when Uncle Joe's schedule is out for 06, they have 4-5 "big one's" as he calls it.

One other thing I just thought of, we've been getting a good amount of rain here, if it's real humid by you that will play into your tuning along with the colder temps. I messed around last winter with my Revo before I really got it set up for racing and it just wasn't that much fun to me, just cause the temps (engine and air) played hell with the thing.

Mine runs constant 235-250 with very good power.

Well, I have no idea what happened, but I had it out today (a balmy 64 degrees, wow!) and the first tank did get up to around 270 again. Let her cool down, topped her off and out again. This time, though, temp. never got above 243 until I really leaned it out. Dialed it in and that thing ran like a scolded dog and stayed right around the 245-250 mark the next three tanks, until, like a dink, I ran it into a sewer culvert, shattered the axle and bent the steering rod (but the RPM arms held up nicely!)

Glad I got it to settle down and run well, though! Now just need to get the shift point where I want it!

Thanks for the tips, fellas! I appreciate it!

I have a TM in my revo w/stockk muffler and i am usually running at about 230-250 which is about the right temp. I run mine a little rich but I get plenty of power. If I throttle on to hard I will flip it.

Well, had it out today since it was a balmy 58 degrees and this son-of-a.... started pulling this crap again! I'm thinking I have an air lead somewhere, so I'm going to pull the mill and RTV it during the week.

Just want to pass this along in case someone else experiences the same issues.

there are a couple things you should check i don't believe you have an air leak but its possible i would check the cooling head bolts to make sure they are tight as some have been known to loosen up and i would change the glow plug if its the same plug you broke it in with chances are you have little metal particles on the element and those hold heat like carbon build up will and can give you a bad read at the plug
