THis is a question and a heads up !

If by any chance there are old maxxers out there looking to swap in a new motor, this is a good article. However I was cutting the crank and noticed that the clutchbell adapter did NOT want to screw fully against the flywheel. I am 99% confident that it was due to the threads stopping on the shaft.
Anyone try this too? Wonder how your experience went. I did not want to cut the shaft any more so I used a small washer to space it from the flywheel. Works good, hopefully won't be a balancing issue.

I did it and it worked good. I used a saws-all, next time I will use a dremel with a cut off wheel. You have to pretty precise when cutting the shaft.

I know this post is older than hell, but i just recently found the article it links to and was wondering if anybody knows if this can be done on a 3.3 maxx?

I don't see any reason why not. You will just need a few parts and the right OS18CV-R. One with a standard crank and slide carb or pilot crank with slide carb would be best.

You will need a new exhaust system though... as the article shows.

i don't agree with cutting up a new motor shaft, i bought a brand new one got the schematics for the 2.5 max and it just used a nut instead of that shaft that screws on so i did mine the same way the 2.5 is done.

o ordered the nut from the hobby shop and it threaded rite on the shaft.

actually now that i look i used the os.18tm it had a spot for a clip and stuff now that i look

i dunno what to tell you about yours.

try finding a vehicle that has that motor on it nobody modified and see how the clutch setup is. thats how i found out about the os.18tm but you posted this thread, so i guess thats what your trying to do lol good luck.

Just an FYI, it's very common to have to cut a shaft to fit your application when it's a standard threaded shaft. There are engines that have a pilot shaft as the TZ, but in the CV-R line, there isn't one. All that is available is standard and short threaded.

The easiest would be this engine:

This cut off nut to assist you:

Then this adapter/nut to hold the flywheel on and for the CB to spin on:

My only suggestion if you go this route is to put the flywheel on, the cut off nut on, then figure out the proper alignment so you don't cut too short. Then when your ready to cut, put the engine in a baggie and poke the shaft through the side of the baggie. This way, as your cutting, the steel/carbon dust in the air won't get inside the engine.

Thanks for the links and info..I'm definetly giving this a shot during the winter. Me, my lhs and my debit card will get it done...I'll be sure to post some pics or maybe do an up to date how to once I figure it out...

I got a .18 on my t-maxx.
I love it. Yes i had to get the shaft cut. just measure and cut.
Fits like factory.

Quick question for the ones who know about TMaxx: I have a very old TMaxx .15 Pro. It is old but I like it and don't want to spend money for now in a new car.

The engine is dead now so I want to replace it with something else but I don't want to spend money in mods. I have three options in my hands: TRX 2.5, OS .18TM and TRX 3.3. I have heard that too much power in the old TMaxx may cause many parts to break, so I would like to know which one of them is the more powerful that you would recommend me to install without the need for changing parts or doing upgrades.

I already have the Traxxas 4900 kit for doing the swap to a rear exhaust engine. Thanks in advance for your advices!

Cut the shaft we all had to good motor ran like a banshee in my rustle
