hello everyone, i have a traxxas t-maxx 2.5 with a os 18 cv-r, recently the one way bearing went in it so i just took it the the hobby shop and i told them to replace the one way bearing and put roto start on it, well i went and picked it up yesterday, brought it home and they were not able to install roto stasrt but they installed the xtm sure start electric universal starter, well i charged my glo igniter and put it on the glow plug unsrewed it and it was glowing very nice, i turned the radio and truck on, and i dont have a battery pack for the drill that comes with the starter kit so i used my dewalt battery operated drill and the batter was almost dead but i put the shaft in the the socked where the pullstart was and pulled the trigger ans it just spun, i can turn it with my fingers, the socket on the pullstart where the shaft goes just spins freely and it doesent seem right, is the drill not charged enuf? can you plz help me,
thanks,
Shane

Sounds like the one way bearing is either shot or needs cleaning. Take it out and spray it liberally with some brake cleaner, swish it around in some in a cut off aluminum can if you want. Then dry it off and put a SMALL drop of ARO on it. If that doesn't work then it's shot.

well the one way bearing is brand new, they just replaced it when they put the sure start on a few days ago, so i am pretty sure it is not that, it has been like that since i picked it up, does the drill need to be more powerfull? or could the engine have no compression?
thanks for your help!

Yeah... either they didn't replace the OWB or, the original starter shaft that was in your engine also should have been replaced when the new OWB was installed.

Personally, I'd take the starter assembly off and take a look at the OWB to see if it looks new. Then, try to spin the OWB by hand in either direction and see if it grabs. If it doesn't, then try to spin the shaft the OWB rides on to see if it's still connected inside the engine properly. If the shaft is connected inside the engine properly and the OWB just spins on the shaft, that is your failure point. Which is a likely candidate unless they installed the XTM starter wrong and forgot parts.

I've had a few OS engines and they all used the same OWB whether they were BB's or SB's. OS 15CV-R, OS18CV-R and OS21RG all use the same OWB. When they started to slip, replacing the OWB only would last a short while (with pull-start), then start to slip as well. But, if I replaced the starter shaft and OWB, they lasted much longer.

ok, well i took it all aprt and couldent find anything rong, so i put the pullstart back on and it is fine, i am assuming that the drill just wasent spinning fast enuf? also i got it started and it runs for about a min then stalls out, what is happening? also the the steering is backwords and when i pressed the trigger the truck went in reverse then i messed with the channels and now it goes forward but the steering is still backwords? any suggestions,
Thanks,
Shane
