I think it because of the carb linkage, the old Maxx has a rotary carb instead of the slide. I could be wrong though I'm fairly new to the Maxx

Yeah the old maxx does have a rotary carb, and a short shaft. Anything .12-18 with side exhaust with a rotary carb and short shaft is a direct replacment.

thats what it says in the tech thingy part anyone else know ho hard would it be to switch to the slide carb?

The orion 18 didn't have much punch IMHO. It was ok if you wanted to run 2wd, but for 4wd it ran really hot.

It was dependable, but not the strongest engine. I'd suggest the OS 18 cv-r.
